Scotia, when last have you checked what a litre of diesel\unleaded cost at the pumps? To transport horses too and fro, at times a 200 mile round trip, costs a fortune. Not many trainers have yards near Newcastle. Southwell will have a lot of entries as it’s in Nottinghamshire so it’s pretty central

Getting back to FP that is another reason in the negative, the famous or infamous bus trip was approx 1000 klms round trip from joburg with all its drama.
Plus transportation of horses.

On another note OZ Harness trainer Dean Braun and Harness driver Chris Alford raided on Sunday past from Victoria, OZ, to Hobart, Tasmania with one runner only. A distance of over 800 kms.
The odds on pop won easily returning 1.30 on the Tote, A lot better than the 1 rand money back on the Crawford runner on Queens Plate day.
The Ozzie raider's trip involved a ferry across the Bass Straits to Devonport.
Interesting trip.

Couldn't agree more - and it's actually quite disturbing to see so many calls for the venue to be re-instated. I see Futura posted a link to a previously reported guilty finding of what is tantamount to extreme horse abuse. How ironic that that particular individual then had the stones to attack a poster on Sporting Post yesterday :

Please do not generalise all from flamingo park as being villians. Have your facts right and name the people . Unfortunately you do get bad appels in a bag at times. Kimberley has a definate place in racing. Yes i would return tomorrow and so would all owners previously involved.

There are 2 other incidents involving other trainers that come to mind immediately - one for doping and another for blatant animal cruelty.

This is not a venue that puts the horse first - never has never will ........

On that note, and I apologize if I have the wrong person, but did our leading trainer in RSA at present not have a alleged or substantial fine issued to him a few years back, cant recall the exact details.

If I have the wrong end of the stick, then I sincerely apologize for any wrong doing on my part.

As published in the Vaal Stipes report of 4 May 2023, trainer Jaap Visser signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 10.5.1 in that he failed to provide a reasonable level of care to the horses under his control, by not providing them with sufficient bedding.

A penalty of a warning was imposed.

And he still gets to train??? After all the history??
