TURFFONTEIN INSIDE 20/08/2020 FORMGUIDES, SELECTIONS, PERMUTATIONS

R1

Preview: THE KOP (10) ran on well from way back over 1000m last time and should relish the step up in trip. TRUMPS EXPRESS (4) can go close here if reproducing his penultimate start over this trip. GILBOA (8) showed good pace on debut over 1160m and can take advantage of a good draw here. MARS ROVER (3) faces strong horses in his first t we O starts and then improved last time when setting the pace over 1400m and finishing fourth so he has a chance here if getting to the front from a wide draw as he has as one scope. AFTER HOURS (5) is by Bezrin and is a half brother to three time winner Grindelwald. (David Thiselton 10-4-8-3-5)

R2

Preview: SAMOA (3) has been knocking on the door and has a fair draw over a suitable course and distance. ARABELLA QUEEN (4) has a good draw for her handy style. FORWARD MARCH (9) is by Pathfork out of a three-time winning British-bred mare who has produced three multiple winners including a Grade 3 runner up and she can improve on her good run second time out when just 0,40 lengths behind Arabella Queen. MALVERN (2) has run some fair races and could earn. CARUSO (7) is by Oratorio out of Var mare Menorah, who is a half-sister to a Grade 2 winner and to Grade 3 winner Viva, who is the dam of Cold As Ice and Live Life. (David Thiselton 3-4-9-2-7)

R3

Preview: OCEANIA (4), who races here with a cornell collar, is five points higher for her last win but she won going away and being by Ideal World she should have more to come. WAY OF THE WORLD (5) is half-a-kilogram better off with Oceania for a neck beating and should have made 1kg improvement too according to the weight for age scale so she should beat the latter on paper. Last time she was a bit short of room in the latter stages and is capable of better. However, she does have a tricky draw. GLOWTORIA (1) was just 0,45 lengths behind Oceania last time and although they face on the same weight terms she should have made 1kg improvement according to the weight for age scale. HOT GOSSIP (2) is unreliable but if getting to the front from a high draw she has the ability to be a threat. HELLO HAPPINESS (10) starts off handicapping off a reasonable mark and finished strongly when winning her maiden over this course and distance so she could earn from a good draw. (David Thiselton 4-5-1-2-10)

R4

Preview: ANNE BOLEYN (2) is a typically progressive daughter of Duke Of Marmalade and has a plum draw over this ideal distance. SHEER TALENT (9) has a tough draw but has a good turn of foot and will make a bold bid to mow them down carrying just 52,5kg. PROMISE (5) finished a close third in a decent field over 1400m last time and is interesting dropped down in trip for the first time in 21 months. THE FIFTH WAVE (6) is 2,5kg better off with Ann Boleyn for a 1,75 length beating but the latter won with a bit in hand and the former does not have a 2,5kg claimer up this time so the actual weight comparison is the same. TWELVE OAKS (7) has a fair draw over a course and distance she has two wins and a second in four starts over and also has a 4kg claimer aboard. (David Thiselton 9-2-5-6-7)

R5

Preview: DANCE CLASS (4) has a tougher task than last time but is progressive and from a plum draw over a suitable trip can make it five in a row. FIFE (7) has only raced ten times despite being a five-year-old but being by Silvano she can still build on her win last time which followed a layoff and earned her a three point raise. JIVE EXPRESS (6), a one year older full sister to Dance Class, is also in good form over this trip and is well drawn too. HEART STWINGS (1) has the class to carry top weight from a fair draw over a course distance where she has one win from one start. KAYLA'S CHAMP (2) has a stamina doubt on pedigree but she has sometimes run as if she would stay this sort of trip. (David Thiselton 4-7-6)

Race 6:

Preview: ELUSIVE FORCE (1) won with authority last time and although raised eight points that merit rating looks to be capped as she won by five lengths. It was the second time she had won easily after setting the pace and if getting to the front from a better draw of two she looks the one to beat. MAMAQUERA (5) ran an honest race last time over 1400m and on a line through the winner Encryption she has a chance on paper with Elusive Force. She does now have a tougher draw but on pedigree she will enjoy the extra 100m. MEERCAT (2) needed her last start and from pole position over an ideal trip she can be involved considering the horse she beat in the maidens, Sultanah, has won twice since. FORT ANNE (7) is well drawn and Strydom stays aboard over a trip which will suit. MALTEZA (4) has a good draw and this and being half-a-kilogram better off might help her reverse a 1,25 length beating last time by Mamaquera although the latter will likely appreciate the slight step up in trip more. (David Thiselton 1-5-2-7-4)

Race 7:

Preview: SACRED LOTUS (2) has shown a tendency to over race both times she's worn blinkers so if she settles she should win this and even if she doesn't settle she has a chance over this 1500m trip considering she pulled last time over 1600m and still managed to finish third behind the classy Anything Goes and the decent Shezaglo. TWICE AS SPECIAL (7) took a strong hold last time when dropped to the back from a tricky draw over 1450m but she still found a finish so from a better draw over 1500m she could be right there if it pans out well especially considering she has been dropped four points in the merit ratings. READYSETGLO (4) stayed on quite well in that race from a good draw and she has another good draw and is only 1,5kg worse off with Twice As Special despite beating her by 2,75 lengths. LAST CHEER (3) was dropped out from a wide draw over 1800m last time and ran on well for third and she is better drawn this time but 1500m might be a touch on the sharp side. LA VALETTE (6) tries further which might not augur well as she is by Var out of a Windrush Maiden, although the latter is a half-brother to the Grade 1 winner Amberpondo, who won from 1000m to 2000m. NAZARETH (1) won her Maiden over 1200m easily from the front but it won't be easy repeating it with top weight of 62kg first time out the maidens over a longer trip. (David Thiselton 2-7-4-3-6-1)

Race 8: RIVERSTOWN (5) could still be on the up so with a nice galloping weight of 54kg and Strydom staying aboard from a middle draw of seven he is taken to beat his stablemate Vistula despite being 3kg under sufferance with her on official merit ratings. VISTULA (4) is probably at her best over this trip and being the joint best-weighted horse together with Mount Laurel she should be right there despite a tricky draw of eight out of twelve. APPROACH CONTROL (2) enjoys this trip and is one from one over the course and distance so it would be no surprise to see him winning from pole position despite officially being 4,5kg under sufferance with the best weighted pair. MOUNT LAUREL (12) has won four out of five but was last seen 229 days ago when beating the decent Victoria Paige in the Three Troikas Stakes over 1400m despite giving the latter 2kg. FULL MAST (10) has turned the corner this season and over an ideal course and distance can't be ignored although his draw of nine makes it tough. LAKE KINNARET (11) is distance suited and well drawn so can use his good turn of foot to run into the money. ZOUAVES (1) has won three times and placed fourth twice in five starts over this course and distance and this classy seven-year-old is another one who is tough to ignore despite being 4kg under sufferance with the best in and having to jump from a tough draw of eleven. (David Thiselton 5-4-2-12-10-11-1)

Race 9

Preview: VAR AND AWAY (1) has plenty of substance and should be cherry ripe over what looks to be an ideal trip. He is 1,5kg better off with Creation for a 1,50 length beating here on June 22 over this course and distance, a race which he might have needed more than his lighter framed opponent and he was also widely drawn that day as opposed to the plum draw he now has. CREATION (4) is three points higher for his win in his penultimate start. He faced the breeze down the straight last time and was probably too handy so if tucked away from a good draw he could go close. ROCK OF AFRICA (3) finished well clear of a below par Creation in his penultimate start over 1400m down the Vaal straight and this seven-year-old looks to have dropped to a competitive mark but he does have a tricky draw of eight over a course and distance where he was three lengths behind the useful Full Mast on June 22 from a draw of two. (David Thiselton 1-4-3)

Anyone have the prices for the ambulance arriving on time?

R1 Between SJG and Peter preference for the former.

R4 Sheer Talent the first pick in what is a super competitive race.

R6 Fort Anne e/w

R7Readysetglo

R8 Clever Guy massive price in contrast to Zouaves with the draws and track configuration.

R9 Var and away banker in all bets.

A few quick thoughts ....

Races 2 and 3 ... very open - especially R3 ...

R4: Twelve Oaks very well weighted - but that last run put me off; Sheer Talent on the up and looks the one to be with

R5: Dance Class dropping in trip and track might pose a problem - I'm not convinced; I prefer the stable mate Jive Express from Heart Stwings; Fife another who may prefer a galloping track; Pretty Border upset material

R6: Elusive Force looks hard to oppose; Oh Mercy Me definite place chance at these weights, while Mamaquera should also be right there - went for Welsh Harp last time, but she disappointed and seems held by Oh Mercy Me on that run

R7: Open contest; Twice as Special big drop in MR and should prove competitive here at nice odds

R8: Looks a match between the 2 Peter runners; both have proven form this track and trip; VIstula the class but comes back from Durban - Riverstown hard to ignore; don't think Mount Laurel good enough to match the Peter coupling at these weights

R9: Nothing between Var and Away and Creation on their last meeting over this trip; so at the odds it is clear where the value lies; only other I think that can feature is Rock of Africa.

Enjoy B)

I like your selections Frodo... Similar page.

Race 2 #1
Race 4 #7 Twelve Oaks .... Danger #9
Race 5 #6 horse to beat... Add in #4 (money horse) .... Wide if you can..
Race 6 open race.... I know a tipster who punted #10 last start... At the weights and price now... Can't get hurt.
Race 7 #7 down 27 points ... Khumalo back
Race 8 #12 .. we differ here. For me Peter coupling have ML to beat.
Race 9 #5 Khumalo again don't leave out Pick6. #1 can win... But is also out on collateral form so they can have the evens.

All the best boys and girls....

Remember to buy booze for the weekend...
