The odds are seriously stacked against punter. Too much uncertainty to place a bet. Interprovincial travel restrictions, fitness of horses etc

Let's lighten this up!
Cancel the July.
Once all those nasty visiting horses have gone home re-schedule the July.
Announce the race on a Wednesday and allow just 48 hours for nominations and final acceptances.
Try and look suitably sympathetic when out-of-town trainers complain that they can't get their runners to Durban in time. Use the popular cliche : Let's all pull together and not be negative!
Close entries to any horse rated 100 or greater just in case some clever out of town trainer flies in a runner. This rule won't affect the locals as there is barely a single horse of that ability based in Durban.
Be innovative - Run it on the poly.
Be innovative - With only 12 runners pay a R1 place dividend to all punters right down to the last finisher.
AT LONG LAST YOU WILL HAVE A LOCALLY BASED DURBAN JULY WINNER!
Now that's good reason to celebrate in these difficult times.
