I cannot explain the result of race 11. Do you think if they had to run the same race with same conditions, same result??
Often wonder if all the cash on the fav made it run such a poor race. (Yes I was also on the favourite like many others).

I think if you ran that race 10 times you would get 10 different results. It looked one of the most difficult races to predict a result being a handicap under lights on the poly. The winner is not the most consistent but had a decent draw and seemed to have a trouble free run. He has always been a useful sort. We were thrilled with our filly’s run from the worst draw. She was down in class having been a regular graded stakes earner, but from that draw and the poly we could not be too optimistic. Last time in the Gr1 on the turf she was dropped out from a wide draw, but was then never able to make up the ground against a top class field. This time being the polytrack, Greg rode her for a position early, and was able to overcome the draw and get into a good position turning for home. She is the most honest and gutsy filly and despite her early efforts she kept going to run a very good 2nd.
There was only a length and a half covering the first 5 home, so credit due to the handicapper as that’s what you would expect from well exposed horses in a handicap race.
I am always baffled by short priced favourites in this type of race. Unless there is good reason to believe that a horse is well ahead of the handicapper for some particular reason, it makes no sense for any value oriented punter.

If you look at the ABC competition entries, 7 was the most popular, but both the winner and the runner up appeared in the selections.
I think the scratching of Priceless Ruler and Master Gambit also had a big impact as both of these horses had clear winning chances.

The polytrack looks to Have dented silver maple’s chances as well as it being a handicap. Few hard luck stories in behind including D’Arrivee who got badly hampered at the start and then was always chasing. Handicaps throw up results, simple as that in my opinion.
