So IT'S amazing that when a company wants to retrench staff it becomes a racist issue. I wonder why? Why is it not just a business decision by a company trying to conduct better business. If this story is in fact true which of the posters knows the numbers and race or gender of those being retrenched? Or are we just to believd the Union. Maybe it is racist maybe not but its unbelievable how everyone and mostly the union label it racist!!. Let's have the real facts and then we can all shout and scream and accuse if need be. I'm no P fan that's for sure but I'm not sure about the so called unions motives either. Just saying.

Louisg, there are lots of companies that are not retrenching,, two instantly that come to mind are Hollywood bets and Vatit, theses are growing, I can make a list for you if required, I see you mention Edcon first in your post, management or mismanagement, do you still believe that Phumelela is good for racings progress?,

Do you for 1 minute believe the retrenching of the staff has anything to do with fixing racing,, it's only to throw overboard the extra weight to keep the 8 Star cruise liner going, and yes later on they will retrench more and the managment will take salary increases and more perks while doing it

What a load of bs.

I am with the Gold Circle brigade on this one, if the gripe is with Phumelela them disrupt the Joburg in Jozi raceday and leave the July alone.

As an aside, it would be interesting to find out if any of the rhetoric is true, personally I cant see Phumelela execs getting bonuses for their piss poor and embarrassing performance. Those with share options are hurting bad and let's hope this continues. It is also incorrect that management numbers have not been affected, I know of at least 2 senior managers who have left - one due to retrenchment, one due to gross negligence.

The Vodacom Durban July racemeeting that takes place at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse this Saturday, July 6, is not under threat as erroneously reported on some national news services.

The Vodacom Durban July is run by Gold Circle Racing and Gaming, the licensed operators of horseracing in KwaZulu-Natal, and not Phumelela as falsely stated in these reports.

The threatened strike action is against Phumelela Gaming and Leisure who are currently undergoing a restructuring of their business that affects their employees.

It is all systems go for Saturday. Hollywoodbets Greyville is decked out in its finest and the weather is set fair - a predicted 25 degrees - for the 50 000 people who are expected on course. The sardines arrived this week and if legend holds true, favourite Hawwaam is the horse to bet on.

The Big T has recently seen disruptions incl July day at the Big T last year. To me, it does not matter whom the owner is, but a disruption of any sort and anywhere is always very much possible these days, so someone needs to contingent plan regardless of responsibilities.

Hurley, may I ask why Louis and myself should only comment on dogs and horses and are the last people in earth who should comment on human rights?

Lets hope the day goes well its a big revenue day for Durban. The sad thing about this is that in a country like SA with all it has going for it, is going through a time of depression and retrenchments. SE Asia (excluding China) the unemployment is negative (more jobs than people) and they moan when GDP growth goes below 8%

Congrats Hurley, this is easily the most idiotic & unintelligent comment to ever appear on this forum. What is your proof for posting this slanderous opinion against Louis & Craig ??
You really are a fool !!

Missed them as well but from the responses I gather they were not very complimentary. Thank you to those who did respond positively to Louis and myself. Much appreciated. Just another idiot hiding behind his computer and pseudonym. Too much of a coward to put a real name to his post.
