I just remember when we started longer meetings late 80s I think or 90s for Major day like July for example. I remember first race was like at 10.30 or 11 if memory serves me right because there were no lights at Greyville, remember having to get to course early by 11 or so?
Surely you adapt your race day string earlier on that day or similar for early float.
It just seems time and time again meeting abandoned on highveldt in summer. The thunder storms are not going to change, so why not be pro-active and try something different.?
The current status quo or attitude would appear to be one of not bothered. Must cost a fortune in wasted transport at the least?

.......want out of the box thinking.....more boxes at/near race courses for visiting horses and trainers for starters.....then trainers even those local can send horses to the race course a day/few days before a race day.....many horses are stressed on a race day through transport and logistic issues....more trainers would be able to raid and participate in meetings if they could use temporary boxes at/near courses....and to add to that temporary quarters for travelling grooms.....this was an idea that was bandied around when they were looking at closing down Newmarket and some of the PTB went shopping for properties around Turffies for additional boxes and staff accommodation.....
