Racing is still strong in other countries, and we always have the comparison eg 60 quid to go to Cheltenham and here its FREE , however people still fill racetracks in other countries but not in SA

Its cheaper to own horses here but vets and other support systems make it more unattractive by the day.

Horseracing links to gambling

I dont have the actual figures but discuss with bookmakers and our population punt more on Lucky Numbers, then Football before the horses.

I agree - not sure if TM indulges in 'writing' in his spare time - if not, he should definitely consider it - great contribution putting into perspective why some of us are slaves to the 'game' for life

There is just something unexplainable about horse racing..............

Sports betting does nothing for me....... been there done that.........
Horse racing on the other hand is in my blood.

Unfortunately we do not have a racing culture in South Africa (anymore).
Where did we go wrong?

When I see the packed crowd at Champ de Mars in Mauritius weekend after weekend with the “rejected” RSA geldings and the racing fans jumping up and down with the horses passing the winning post, then I ask the question again:

What went wrong in RSA?

......failure to promote inclusiveness to the life blood of the industry .....the punters.....left them with a piss poor infrastructure in badly managed on and off course facilities and treated them with distaste..... all the better betting facilities in the JHB area have booted out the operator and are raking in on the open bet only because they offer a superior service to that a non service orientated (dis)organisation....they are only now trying to up their game but it is 2 decades too late...
