Ive always liked Deon as a jockey, if the horse is good enough he will bring it home.

Louis, I would have thought that YOU as the trainer would have more say / preference to which jock u want on top of your horses.

as YOU know, some horses need a " soft '" ride with hands only by Lyle or maybe Gavin L....... & some horses could do with a VIGOROUS RIDE by say Bernie Fayd.... just saying !

plus we all know, put a TOP JOCK ON LIKE MARCUS, & your betting odds are halved - that's for sure.

Jeepers I see that Deon's next ride ( 1 ) is only on Wed 20th :evil: very sad indeed.

I remember years ago, myself ( occasionally ) going to KIMBERLEY by bus with the jocks & horse handlers - the 3 OLDER JOCKEYS going there were GUNTHER, SHERMON & DEON.

NONE go there anymore ..... sad:sick: :sick: the YOUNGER generation have taken over !

Deon and Fransie Naude used to ride for Barend Botes. They formed a formidable team winning many races in Bloemfontein. Vaal and Kimberley.

Louis, I would have thought the trainer has more say in jockey choice than an owner. ( i may view this differently than u Louis, I only have shares in horses - don't own them outright )

I suppose a FULL owner, like Mr, Ferreira, or Shirtliff or who ever has final say ?

Yes, the Trainer has more say. Yes, the majority of Owners leave it to the Trainer, to build his team etc.
I still don't understand the relevance of that, to my post, though...
