Anton Marcus is a master of pace and that will separate him from most jockeys riding in South Africa.How many times has Marcus gone to the front only to lead the field a merry dance at the end.He is calculating the time taken at each landmark.Top Jockey !
I dont think its fair to compare Anton and Ryan Moore for many reasons:
1. Track conditions between Europe and South Africa are cheese and chalk;
2.Thanks to M De Kock some of our horses compete overseas and perform fairly well amongst the best.Outside of that if you look at the ratings of our horses here in S.A compared to British Champions season I dont think we can make a comparison of the top rating horse that Ryan Moore rides Vs Marcus.
3.I think if the playing field was equal some of our top Jocks[Strydom ,Lerena ,Delpech and Marcus]would be amongst the best in the world. G.Lerena won the Hong Kong Invitations.I stand to correction but I believe that Ryan Moore,Purton and Moierra was also in that competition.
For me Anton Marcus riding style is equivalent to Joe Fanning of England.Take the horse to the front run its true race at the right pace and good luck to the rest.
Ryan Moore and Felix Coetzee would have been a good comparison as both jockeys very difficult to fight off in a close finish.

Elmo maybe the old Fanning but the Fanning Lately is nowhere near Anton Marcus,he is one of the weakest jockeys in a finish and believe me there are plenty poor jockeys riding in the UK.Wolves last night was an example of below average jockeys who would not be riding anywhere else in the world if there was one race meeting a day.Duern riding 5 wide in a 5 horse field on the favorite.Havlin riding wide the whole way only for him to come into the straight and make the horse lose even more ground by going right to the inside.Chickens selection ridden by Monaghan,absolutely no sense of pace from the front.Day in day out you will see plenty bad rides in the UK as there are way too many rubbish jockeys riding there.The top jocks are good but the bad ones would battle at Ngong.

Points noted Durbs .I think we can all write a story book of rides.On the weighted average I prefer punting on overseas races,especially England and Ireland hence a keen follower of certain Jockeys [Tudlope,Fanning,Moore,Spencer ,De Sousa..]to name a few.
I do agree there are certain jocks that you can give a miss and same here in S.A
If I am not happy with a jockeys riding style or feel done in by the ride [given a period of time]then I sanction that jockey out of all my tickets.

Like you say Elmo you follow certain jockeys in the UK and Ireland.That's probably the right way to go as some jockeys (Rab Havlin for sure) could stop Frankel from winning.

I never back him and Dougie Costello Elmo,those two I stay far away from.The thing is they gonna make a living out of being a jockey as they gonna get their winners because there are gonna be races where every jockey is just as bad the next.
