Can't believe platinum class is not even mentioned in any of the kzn races, last two wins have been the best I've seen in a long time.could only mean that snaith wants the cape triple crown?

Frodo, I agree with you fully, ANS ran well above his rating in the Met and in this current July field will be the one to beat. He is my first choice, it will be interesting to see how Justin places him in the upcoming features to protect his MR.

The betting will change quickly from now as who ever wins the Derby and Daisy Guineas will be the new favorites. :P

Brett Crawford really rates white river as a top division horse and with eyes wide open not going for the July i think he will be one of the horses to beat. Draw a line through the Derby run, things didn't pan out for him. Prior to the running of that race Brett was super confident and he's usually on the money.

Automatic qualifiers are giving the July a miss a nomination stage. Big runners in the Met like Whisky Barron and Last Winter apply for visas without giving the July a second thought.

It's a race having a handicapping crisis. Minimum and maximum weights make it a conditions/hcp. It is not easy to see a way to keep it's status as the race everyone wants to win when the best horses see it as a career stopper.

The MET was won by a 3yo filly in it's first running as a WFA race without conditions, who would have guessed that? Here's a question then, how would the July fare as a WFA at the end of a long season? It does look like they have to give a long think to converting to a conditions race that keeps Gr 1 winners interested when there are not too many around.

Ken Nicol: Recently returned to training Legislate has been creating something of a stir at Summerveld, with top jockeys Richard Fourie, Grant van Niekerk and Bernard Fayd’Herbe all enthusing about the now seven-year-old after riding him in work.
April 24, 2018

The 2014 Equus Horse of the Year and Vodacom July winner has been nominated by trainer Justin Snaith for this year’s renewal of the race, although at this stage that seems a long way off.

“He’s doing really, really well. We may give him a barrier trial at some stage to see where we are,” said Snaith.
