How does this happen ?

With the scratching of All Aboard in the 1st race yesterday - This was reported.

First timer All Aboard was scratched prior to the first at Kenilworth on Tuesday due to a ‘passport discrepancy’

Tabnews report that Chief Stipe Ernie Rodrigues said that the microchip read correctly, but that the markings noted in the passport were clearly very different to the actual physical appearance of the horse.

The problem was picked up by the horse identifier, and the Stipes were taking no chances and scratched the Mambo in Seattle colt. The matter will now be fully investigated.

Wow, the outcome of that investigation will be interesting indeed. Well done to the team for picking up this discrepancy though, and I fully agree with the action taken.

Is this microchip hack-able or can it be tampered with?

Thanks Warren. The entire reputation and credibility of the sport rests on this system being bullet proof.

It could have while they reported it and then scratched before loading

Hey Bob...My data is finished !!!

Re your thread "how does it happen"

NHA stud book division is in a mess.

They brought in Judy Davies from UK to fix it then gave her no support so she left !! Judy worked at Darley running their pedigree division for years.

That discrepancy is just pure negligence ..

I cannot believe they let Judy Davies go. She is worth her weight in gold. More mediocrity from these .......

Well done to the horse identifier for picking up this 'mistake'

Do these discrepancies only occurred in Cape Town?

The problem presumably lies with the foal identification already, as this is where the microchip is implanted and the markings filled in into a passport.
Unless a replacement passport may have been ordered somewhere along the way, and the wrong marking page inserted.
Unless it was a grey, I imagine the markings would not have changed since the microchip was implanted and the markings diagram completed.

Passport Fail – DNA Test Follows
'Correct horse apeared'
Updated 5th March 2018

The Kenilworth stipes will carry out a DNA test on All Aboard as part of their investigations into why the unraced two-year-old’s markings failed to match those in his passport when he was compulsorily scratched at Kenilworth last Tuesday.

Michael Clower reports that Senior stipe Ernie Rodrigues reiterated on Saturday that it was the correct horse who appeared last week – the scanned chip matched the number in both the passport and the NHA records – and he explained: “We are doing the DNA test so that we can clear the horse to race as soon as possible.”

Rodrigues explained that the NHA receives photographs of foals and yearlings from the studs – the Dean Kannemeyer trained All Aboard was sold by Klipdrif as agent for R300 000 at last year’s CTS Premier – and the one in its records shows markings that match the original passport.

However equine passports can be re-issued and that of All Aboard has been issued three times. It is the centre page of the third passport that shows markings completely different from the two previous ones.

National Horseracing AuthorityRodrigues said: “We still have to ascertain how this latest centre page got into the passport.”

He and his colleagues also have to ascertain which passport was presented when the Mambo In Seattle colt was granted his stalls certificate and, if it was the third one, why the discrepancy was not spotted by officials at the time.
