The last 3yo colt/gelding to win the Met was Badgers Coast in 2000. It was trained by Mike de Kock and ridden by Figueroa who was a replacement rider. El Picha was denied by winning the "big three" after he won the Summer Handicap and the July the year before.

Badger's Coast was my favourite horse...

Took my Dad to the Gold Cup one year and we made a bundle when placed second to Highland Night - would have made more had Badger's Coast won but we grateful for what we did win !! :)

I believe that Mythical Play trained by David Payne was the last 3 year old filly that ran in the Met. She didn't perform well on the day and was never the same horse after.

......the year that Igugu won.... although not a 3year year old....she was boxed, bumped and bored by the boys and she fought on and won.....these Street Cry's are an altogether tougher specimen....and if you see the way Zenyatta behaved..... she had more balls than most colts....they not going to let Oh Susanna get her own way.... and I foresee similar tactics as to Igugu's run.....and while they are trying get the better of her....Snaith's win the race..... :woohoo:

I think Mythical Play may have run the year before as a 3year old also. But it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

.....not from her plumb draw....she will be swamped from the jump....and will enjoy a bit of cover but will be just off the pace....cant see her being dropped out from that close to the fence.... Snaith needs to get one up front ......and I hope Mrs P does not realize why her horse is not in the stayers race....Brandon Lerena is an ideal front running jock but has to get up from a really wide draw....they may want to get the Captain to lead but he may be saved to check the filly as he cant dictate this time unless there is no pace.....

Ok but I can't see Delpech not being up with the pace ,What you think of her chances,Can she be up there and then lengthen her stride to hit the front
Surely she can stay the distance in this class?

....In with a shout.... but Delpech may not want to make the running for OS....it would make OS chances far easier....against the 4yr old filly is the track....and she is only 6-8 months older than OS with more to shoulder....ideal for OS if Delpech makes running she can stalk.....Os has another option if the pace is not on the other well drawn mare will drop off from the early part and all she needs is to stay in front of her....going to be a very tactical affair.....they slow it from the jump and Lerena gets to the front .....they get going from the jump and the Captain takes a seat with the stable companion and OS still stalks.....then you have the big closers off a faster pace ....all of Marinesco, Nother Russia, Sail South, Last Winter,Copper Force and Nightingale....they need to make a plan with Legal Eagle and if early pace is slow he has a chance too.... no one better than Marcus getting up front and then dropping anchor....the race is wide wide open and while these okes all try to out scheme each other.... an absolute shocker comes to win the race....
