Day 1

Race 5 - Lloyd's Legacy 3/1, Rodney 10/1

Always been held in high regard by the Drier stable but has quite a bit of issues. Seems like the cornell collar is helping so far. Showed just what he can do LTO by crushing his field. Big jump in class but he could be up to it. I'd prefer if the race was on grass but let's see what he can do.

Rodney's last run on the poly was very eye-catching and should go pretty well here with 52.5kgs on his back.

Race 6 - Macduff 7/2, Irish Pride 8/1

Macduff loves the poly. Just lost his unbeaten course record to Doosra but he really should have got there but just jumped a bit slow on the day. Shouldn't have a problem with the distance. Better draw this time and AD up. has a lot in his favour so should really go very close.

Irish Pride was unfortunately never in the race on July day. But back on the poly which will suit better. He's 1 from 1 here and if he's back to his best form, he'll go very well at 8/1

Race 7 - Marinaresco 22/10, Bela-Bela 6/1

Marinaresco comes to defend his crown after his scintillating July win. There was no better feeling than seeing the little champ proving the doubters and naysayers wrong with his July triumph. That said, he's done what he came to KZN to do so this is a bonus race for him. I'm way up on him courtesy of the July so he owes me nothing. If he's recovered, then he'll win. Extremely lethal over this c&d but again it's all about how his well-being is.

You couldn't be more impressed with how Bela-Bela dismantled the Garden Province field. Breathtaking and this is her best chance to beat the boys. Majority here took part in the tough July while she didn't so that's an advantage. Only Captain America didn't so IMO she can do it. Hoping she goes out on a high note.

Captain America and Black Arthur(yes don't rule him out :P ) are the others I think will be there at the business end.

Race 8 - Premier Dance 16/1, will only be backing Nightingale at race time if she hits anything near 16/10

Big fan of premier dance and she is improving rapidly. I said LTO I wasn't too happy about the drop in trip and it just caught her out. Now she's back up to her optimum distance IMO. First go at this sort of class but I think she could be up to it. Not going to hurt at 16/1.

Race 9 - Kapen Pride 2/1

Nice run behind winners LTO and the winner Sea King runs in the Grade 1 on Sunday so could be good form. Should find it much easier against this lot and step up in trip will aid.

Great write up MomF - some thoughts from myself .... most races evenly matched ....

I agree that Rodney will go close - I think they will go hell for leather up front and this will suite the closers like Horse Guards and Rodney.

In the 6th, if one goes back a bit in the form, Poly specialist Night Trip looks big value at current odds - huge turnover with Macduff at the weights - even taking into account that M has improved a lot recently ....

In the big one, my heart of course is with the Captain in a big way, but the brain tells me that Marinaresco will prove hard to beat; Bela Bela I think can't beat them at these weights, but looks clearly 3rd best ahead of Black Arthur; Sail South definitely the wrong price and should be closer to 5/1 imo, huge each-way value

Nightingale looks almost sure to sink my hopes of winning the Charity Turf, so I'm taking lost of cover on her with P6s and JPs - really looks very hard to beat; the danger imo is Star Express who has run N close before - not sure that Premier Dance is up to this class, but the odds offered is very tempting indeed

Enjoy B)

Star Express. Better value as well. Ignore last run.

Agree looks the one but watch any betting on Chamber Maid. She loses ground and over races
but if she puts it together is a lot better than current rating.

Anyone fancy Eddie Sweat in the 4th, noticed that this horse was fancied last time out but more so on the 26th March 2017 Eddie Sweat ran 1.50 lengths behind Lil Red Rooster, tomorrow he's 7 kg's better off with the favorite on that run and he's some 10/1, I think it's a mad price and I'll side with this one.
