"Several senior jockeys at Kenilworth on Saturday refused to continue riding after the fifth race and were accused of intimidating junior riders booked to take their place…"

The real issue here and missed by many is the pathetic archaic rules that govern South African racing.
Ok os the ground was wet and there was a storm and therefore we could NOT race.
What about this scenario.......
Same situation BUT instead of the jockeys NOT wanting too race I the owner feel that my horse wont now be suited by the going. I cannot scratch him without facing a mandatory exclusion period.
Seems a bit unfair to me?
The whole lot needs reviewing. There is enough racing now to sustain choice scratchings from cards based on weather etc.
In other words I should enable to nominate and accept a horse in 2 races 3 days apart and if I so choose I should be able to withdraw my horse from the 1st engagement without prejudice.

That is a great point about the weather and track conditions Easy, the owner is prejudiced in both scenarios and does not have any choice without a sanction occurring. Another point that the apologists for the Jocks conveniently ignore, is the willingness to race on major days where prize money warrants it.
