The NHRA says that "The integrity of samples stored in the Laboratory was not compromised by the fire and the NHA confirms that the regular collection of samples will continue as normal. Samples will be stored as usual and will be tested once the Laboratory is fully operational again."
The NHRA does not say that the equipment for testing the samples was not compromised.
The pig juice and cobalt season will be around for a while longer. They will never make up the backlog.

I have heard that these caffeine positives all stem from a specific feed supplier. The issue is unclear to me but it appears that NHA only do qualitative testing and not quantitative testing. This would mean that any minute trace of caffeine would be declared a positive, even if in very small doses in the feed. Ultimately the Trainer would not be aware of this until found positive. But then the strict liability rule kicks in and the Trainer is the guilty party.
I stand to be corrected but I think that the quantitative issue was also part of the Goodman case. Also, overseas, the strict liability rule was successfully challenged in court. I guess the bottom line will be whether there was caffeine in the feed and what quantities were found in the specimens.
Ultimately it is a damn difficult one. The Trainers could be innocent and NHA are simply doing there job.

Yes, there is definitely a feed that is being used in KZN (Maybe in other parts of the country too) which is known or has since been proven to contain fairly high levels of caffein

In a press release published on Wednesday 13 September, the National Horseracing Authority has noted that there have been a number of specimens taken from horses which have tested in excess of the screening limit for caffeine.
Accordingly, the NHA is obligated to notify the relevant Trainers of this occurrence and afford them options as envisaged in terms of the Rules.
The NHA has undertaken an investigation in order to identify whether any commonality exists between the specimens of the affected horses being above the screening limit for caffeine.
In this regard, the NHA has requested that the affected Trainers provide the NHA with information, which would allow for a more complete view of the circumstances surrounding these results, prior to any potential inquiry proceedings.

All of a sudden an investigation is being carried out.
Why?
only one reason
So that a cover up can happen as with the cobalt positives
In the previous case of caffeine positives it was a small insignificant Kzn trainer
With the cobalt it was big guns
I would bet that this is the situation now
Any Group races effected
We will never know
Talk about the Guptas!!!
