The horses were stolen on Wednesday lunch time, and the race was apparently run on Thursday evening. They were recovered Friday lunch time, largely thanks to the use of a drone from a private individual.
I am glad the NHRA are investigating this disaster in order to stop similar situations in the future. Far too many TBs are landing up in these kind of races, and then discarded on the side of the road once the racing is over.
As racehorse owners, it is imperative that we follow protocols and ensure we have done right by these horses.

To be fair.
1) Geldings that have finished their racing career what would you think should be done with them? The most logical and sensible route is to find them a home where they can be retrained and enter a second career doing something else. OTTB are particularly suited to having a productive and happy second life.
2)Jenny Millington's operation is a vital cog in this chain of offering a horse a second life.
3)Once the form is signed and the horse disposed of correctly the NHRA has no further authority.
4) The owners and trainer were involved in the search.
The issue is actually a law enforcement one and anger should be directed at the criminals involved in the theft, the city and the law enforcement authorities not at the people who put so much effort into looking after these horses.

A bit of a value judgement to say the horse was discarded like rubbish - it went to Jenn. Thats not discarded like rubbish - the opposite in fact.

hello all
does anyone have any information of how much money is changed hands at these meets.
I am told that its definitely more than what that owner got when he won at Windsor.
any truth in that.
also heard that in Kimberley these bush races are used as prep runs for the actual Kimberley meeting.

@ Sucker - I've heard the same, although this is in contravention of the NHRA rules (I don't know off-hand which rules)

Agree with you Walter the horses were stolen and I'm sure Jenny was looking after them well. Unfortunately with this illegal racing taking place these horses will be targeted . Such a shame and I suppose trying to beef up security is the best way to curb the theft but like dog fighting these meetings will continue and horses will be abused. Everyone really needs to make sure these horses end up in the right place or rather have them put down. By the way nice to see you on ABC it's been a long time since those Old Parks days trust you well.

Absolutely agree with points 1 & 2. Questions must be raised as to why no HHCU in the Western Cape. Jenny should be awarded a sainthood.
point 3 you make as if the form was signed. It wasn't.
point 4 again debatable. Involved perhaps from a financial contribution involving getting intelligence but physically? I think not. I have been told that Maximum Flo NEW owner not the racing owners was intensely involved in the search.

@OTA - you are correct. It was Maximum Flo's NEW owner who had only adopted him 2 weeks prior from Jenny.
