Found this on site

At the same time we bought a horse for 2 grand she was called Breathless and we did the same as the Azzie syndicate and took a bus load of friends to the big T to watch her win her maiden on her second run!
One of the best days of my life, she was ridden by Alan Fleet and trained by Cliffy Otto.
When we bought the Sunday Times a big article from Francois Woolfhart " a Scot gets lucky" with a full write up of our day at the races
Note in theses days we had a full page on racing not just a 2 inch...

where are you going? Why do you want to know? off course you going to play the horses again. So.

But you hardly ever win and you always say that you are going to win.
The basis of a couple of words between an ex girlfriend of mine who will be referred to as the bunny boiler for all practical purposes.

Off i went down to the off tote to play a few bets on an warm Saturday lunch time. The bunny boiler wanted me to take her to the Brass Bell for lunch. FFS whats more important, having lunch at some over priced joint next to the beach watching the waves crashing up against the harbour with a beautiful woman or play the horses.

You got it, play the horses

Played my bets then went back home expecting the bunny boiler to moan. Much to my relief she had gone out. (hopefully she remembers to bring back a take out for me)

I then sat around listening on Radio Good Hope for the results. Bang one of my trifectas came in.

I jumped into the motor down the road and swung into the car park cock- a- hoop as i knew that it would pay enough to take her out for lunch the next day and maybe pay for her regular once a month hairdo.

I made my way to the board on the side of the tote which ran next to all the tote windows at the Kenilworth off tote. They would in those days write the winning numbers and payouts in thick black ink on a sheet and place it in on the board. I had a quick glance at the race number and winning numbers, went over my ticket, yes got it. Now for the payout. My eyes wandered, slowly, nervously down the sheet of paper, which in reality was maybe 3 inches wide by 6 inches in length. My eyes reached trifecta. R300 odd. Ok not bad.

I then took my ticket to the window. There were only a few souls left as it was the 7th race that i won on and there was only one race to run. I handed in my ticket and the terminal operator inserted my ticket into the machine. In those days there was a little screen in front of her machine which either told you, in red numbers, what your bet cost or what your winning ticket paid.

To my surprise and delight those little red numbers came up with 3300. What 3300 bucks. After the money was counted out and handed over to me i made my way back to the board. Something must be wrong as i am sure it said 300. Low and behold i miss read.

Into the motor and home. The bunny boiler was by now back, a few glasses of wine and all ready to have a full go at me. I let her give it to me full throttle. I just smiled and made myself a cup of coffee. After a few minutes i enquired if she was done to which she replied, I have not started yet. Shit i thought, cant have any more of this, let me play my trump card.

I took out the money, where did you get that? Oh dear now she thought i stole the money.

I gave her her share and needless to say we had a delightful lunch at the sea the next day. She looked extra good after she had her haircut with the horses money the week after.

This was around 1988 so more than enough to do a lot with

So when you going to play again, asked the bunny boiler
