Muhti, unless they cock-up badly , there is no reason why converting the inside track to Poly should have the Greyville effect ....Greyville ended up with 2 "half" tracks!
Turf has 2 full tracks.
Where else would you suggest they install "all weather" racing , bearing in mind it's needed during summer night racing,or don't you think it's required at all?
Mini is suggesting what I did ages ago .......you don't need facilities that nobody uses!!-but Turfontein already exists as an asset, so unless sold for huge profit and replaced elsewhere (with limited facilities ) they must use it optimally!
....the problem with Greyville is not only they have 2 half tracks but also a turf system that has been compromised by creating a less dense sub- surface substrate with the poly system. This means that the sub-surface moisture required in the turf system is migrating through the porous poly substrate. The turf is not growing/behaving like it used to.....who knows what more problems could arise in a different climate and at altitude....the poly at Rantjies does not seem to be working as it should and even MDK is looking at the Cape now to escape the problems with too much poly racing in KZN and at his JHB training base....not the surface to train and cultivate up and coming champions....

Poly and Tapeta, two different surfaces albeit all weather. Seen horses in the UK that have won on the Poly but never on Tapeta and vice versa.

Would much rather have the surface that equates closest to turf from a MR point of view!
Far better to switch with the minimum of adjustment- remember what a debacle it was switching from sand to Turf on the morning of the meeting!!!!!!

I hope we will get an all-weather track soon!!! Joburg needs it! The turffontein inside track or the new track at the vaal (whatever its called...the classic track?) will be perfect. The new track at the vaal should have been all-weather...why do we need 3 grass tracks there? I dont even know how the Vaal works anymore! Is it the classic track and an inside track, or both and the outside track?

So UK is throwing out poly for, I assume, tapeta.
Did Dubai not throw out tapeta to return to dirt? Or was this a strategy only to bring back the Americans?

To bring back the Americans. They still have a Tapeta training track.

Lets hope that when we eventually go the "all weather" route, they consult with MdK .....he has trained horses for all the options!

Some trivia on artificial surface taken from
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Track_surface
:
Statistics for North America in 2015 showed: 1.18 fatalities per 1,000 starts on synthetic surfaces, 1.22 on grass courses, and 1.78 on dirt tracks.
For now, Poly, looks to be the most popular.

- Fibresand, Sand particles and polypropylene fibres, Southwell
- Polytrack; A mixture of silica sand, recycled synthetic fibers (carpet & spandex) and recycled rubber/pvc. In cold climates, the mixture may also include jelly cable (plastic insulation from copper phone wire). The entire mixture is coated with wax.
