Did Van Rensburg see the horse finishing on the outside?I don't think so.A harder ride in the closing stages or a extra smack or two he could of held on for second.

He gave the horse about 10 reminders over the last 400m(changed from right to left hand also) - He never once stopped riding and kept pushing until the line.

Not at all - When I was at school in about 1983-84 a bunch of Jeppe Boys were rowing at Wemmer Pan in weather like this(training). Lightning struck the boat and as I recall most of the boys were knocked unconscious - One boy DIED - Wemmer Pan is a few km's from the track - Lightning not to be trifled with
