Deny, deny, deny and if that doesn't work blame someone else.

If it happens to be a confused son then so be it.

Huchergh, he did not deny. Pleaded guilty. That is basically what happened so take it or leave it. No skin off my nose.

Bob started this thread with the question,'isn't this the 3rd or 4th time'?

That hardly smacks of innocence.

Craig Eudey wrote: Mr H, our Vets write in our book the withdrawal period of any medication with a withdrawal period in it. I think it is the trainers duty to keep an eye on it. Each vet might see 30 horses a day maybe more in some cases and many of those wont be racing so NHRA does not need that info. Bob I think this case has extenuating circumstances with Chesney being concussed/confused after the hard fall.

But Craig it is ultimately the punters and horses that suffer - If in the case above my approach was applied then the horse would never have run (with help) and would have been scratched by the NHRA before it even got a chance to compete - We need a proactive NHRA not a reactive one as the integrity of the punt and welfare of the horse needs to be put above all else.

100% Mr H,

A country can't run without an efficient legal system, and racing is the same.

Everyone knows that the NHRA are a shambles.

The people who sustain the game, the punters, are rightly walking away from it.

Even easier Mr H the vet can just put the horses passport into a box named WAIT in their office and nobody will get concussed/confused for the period of 30 days....or what ever the time period is.

Every horse has a "passport " which I understand has to accompany horses to the races ....................surely if any vet treatment had to be entered therein, with an "administered" date and an "expiry" date,an on course inspection would lead to discovery of unexpired periods and PREVENT horses running within prescribed periods.

I'm not going to get too carried away in this, however I find it rather cheap that such strong opinions can be formed on the back of so little knowledge. What kind of a lunatic (ColinP) would call a man a religious bigot for what his son has done? And what did his son actuly do? He asked the vet to give the newly gelded horse depocillan, and Redcarpet Captain triveterin. The vet mixed the two, as you were informed, whilst Chesney was in hospital, and there we have it!! Gavin van Zyl the new born genous dope artist, who gives his horses GO SLOW DRUGS! Yes penicilan would acty hinder the horses performance before aiding it! (Oh and thanks again to Craig who identified pen as the drug which carries procaine) But I guess the NHA didn't consider this, or anything else they should have? I suppose the fact that Dr Last has accepted full responsibility for the incident, to which extent I shall not divulge, had no consequence on the matter? It boggles the mind. Thankfully there are people like Craig, and Louis who are able to enlighten your shallow perspectives.

Gareth, bud what will you say when it happens again in the future ? Every case has its own merits granted, but to be a repeat offender.....?? What ever the merits ....? Zero tolerance and zero excuses for me.
Mr H I agree with you 100%

Gareth,

The heading of this thread states that the Van Zyl stable has been found guilty of a similar offence/s previously.

Is this correct or not?

There are not many guilty people in prison! There is always an excuse for the transgressions. Whilst I understand Gareth protecting his family, the long and short of the story is that there are trainers who have been training for decades without a single positive. Gavin has had a few in a relatively short training career. The fact that the administration of the banned substance was done by a vet is immaterial. Gavin remains the person responsible for the horse. A question I would have is why was Robert Bloomberg engaged if the vet was prepared to take the fall?

....like I said earlier in the thread those who have never been caught have the better vets.... so why is everyone baying for Gavin's blood.....Charlie Laird had a similar occurance where the vet mixed up the shots.....and as Gareth rightly pointed out the substance is found in a penecillin combo is commonly used by vets.....this would have more of a retarding action on a horse than one to improve performance ....so why the uproar.....mistakeS like a prior GVZ offence where the vet injected in the wrong place and failed to warn of the consequences...GET A NEW VET
