I dont necessarily think the 3yo crop was poor. Just because no one came out and dominated. Lots of crops which were actually very average overall were made to look good by a champion . Having multiple different G1 winners may actually give strength and depth to the crop and they could prove themselves in the seasons to come...of course they still have a lot to prove. It's better in my opinion than having 1 horse win 4 g1 and then retiring to stud.

The fact that export is an option , and that the big owners can quite happily miss out races because conditions don't suit them, or they have other runners in those races , muddies the picture a bit too. Except for the July , ( and some of the big sprints), we did not have the very top 3yo / top older horses clashing in the WFA races.

Added to the fact that generally only one or 2 of the "top" 2yo ends up in the top few as a 3yo I wouldn't be betting on them at this stage to be any better or any worse( as the op suggested) than the last crop
