I saw on some US morning line odds as 25/1. But I admit I do not know how they calculate this.

Upstart will run one hell of a race, he is due a win.. Ran 2nd twice in grade ones having been bumped both times.. Win those and he'd be as short as Dortmund.. I got 25s at E/W but I see 20 is still available at hollywood, prob still get 25s if u look around .. Let's go Jose Ortiz, bring him home!

17 now if you take the scratching into consideration. No horse has ever won the derby from the 17 Gate.

But others have won it from bigger gates? Big Brown?

In the previous 140 editions, no horse has won from gate 17, the only gate yet to produce a winner.. Eish! American Pharaoh has only had to pass one horse in all his runs, and that was a 33/1 sprinter that was out on a suicide mission and got passed around the turn, he always goes to the front.. The derby will be a big test, doubt he can get the leader or the rail from gate 17, some speedy horses on his inside, he'll have to pass a few, travel wide and come for a run down the middle.. Good luck to him..

TELLYTRACK TAKES YOU TO CHURCHILL DOWNS - SATURDAY 2 MAY 2015
The Monaco Grand Prix, the Indy 500, Monza, the Le Mans 24 Hour...
I'm sure you can remember at least one great race from at least one these tracks, yes? But what if I said Epsom, Ascot, Meydan or Nad Al Sheba, Flemington, Sha Tin, Churchill Downs...Something tells me you'd have a lot more stories for us, so join us on Tellytrack this weekend as they write the next one.
Tellytrack is thrilled to have secured the rights to broadcast the race meeting from Churchill Downs on Saturday 2 May. With live coverage of all eleven races starting from 16:30 onwards, and the Derby itself going off at 24 minutes past midnight, it's going to be a special night.
There will be world class racing on offer right through the night but South African eyes of will be focused almost entirely on one runner. And who else could it be as Mike de Kock turns out MUBTAAHIJ in the Kentucky Derby; to be run on the dirt track over ten furlongs (2000m) and, following his trouncing of the opposition in his UAE Derby win at Meydan, he can't be without a chance of taking home America's greatest prize.
But no need to wait for the last race to join in, tune in to Tellytrack (DSTV 239) and follow the conversation on Twitter (#TTDerby) right through the meeting. We will be running interactive give-aways of betting vouchers to those who can correctly answer a question...or maybe just because your tweet is our favourite. The prizes will be a R500 betting voucher that can be redeemed at either a TAB or TABGold outlet and, if you have an active account at the time of winning, the Tote Operator will throw in another R500...Which means an easy R1,000 in the account! Couldn't be easier...but there's more...
To top it off, how about a signed set of MUBTAAHIJ's famous silks to hang up in the office? What'll that be worth if he wins the race?
Well, There's two ways to get your hands on a set:
Tellytrack will be auctioning one set off on Twitter during the meeting with all proceeds being donated to the National Horse Trust; and the other set will be given away to a lucky "Tweeter" on the night, so no excuses to miss it now!
Details of the competitions will be broadcast during the day on Saturday and on Twitter from @TellytrackSA, along with race tips and general chat as the meeting warms up to the big one...and we wait for those goose bumps to kick in as they come of the last turn of one of the worlds most iconic race tracks.
Whatever you're thinking, don't make any plans for Saturday night; get in front of the TV and settle in for what could...just, could...be the biggest international horse race in South Africa's history!
Join Tellytrack, your world of winners, from 16:30 this Saturday, as we take you there...
Totalisator betting will be available throughout the night with details of the bets available below and broadcast regularly on Tellytrack from Friday 1 May.
