Gone to join the other legends of the turf ... blessings on your head, Jimmy, you gave it everything you had and we all benefited from your in-depth knowledge. God speed!

So sad to hear of Jimmy's passing. The knowledge he had was encyclopedic and so entertaining...

Thoughts are with Elaine, Aiden and family...

from his sons facebook

Hi all. Firstly a big thank you to all for the messages of love and support during this very difficult time. Means a lot to myself and the family and I'm sure my dad as well. We are having a memorial send off "Tribute to Jimmy" on Friday afternoon at Turffontein racecourse from 3.30pm for 4pm, which we are hoping will go on into the night. Please come down and celebrate the life of this remarkable man with us. He touched so many with his warmth and generosity of spirit and we would like to show him just how much he means to us. The affair will not be formal as we want it to be a joyous occasion, but there will be a few people who will say a few words. If anyone would like to say something about dad, please feel free, the mic is yours. There will also be a piano that will be accompanied by Adele Strombeck and we encourage any or all of dad's thespian friends to send him off in song. He would have loved that. So get out the song books and come down to Turffontein on Friday to experience the love that was and will remain my dad.

COME CELEBRATE JIMMY - TURFFONTEIN RACECOURSE- FRIDAY 24TH OCTOBER FROM 3.30 ONWARDS. A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF A MOST REMARKABLE MAN

Was just reading Robyn Louw's tribute on SP and noticed that I share a birthday with the late JL...

To those that knew him, seems to have been a special human being...

Cherish the life rather than mourn the passing...hope there is much singing and banter and kind words spoken at memorial scheduled for Friday.

I first encountered Jimmy Lithgow at the Engen Refinery and he was doing what he did best, on the screen and conducting the Safety Induction Course to all who entered and worked at the plant.

Then it was not surprising to see his name and picture in a racing magazine named PROGRESSIVE RACING. However this time round his was the capacity of Editor of this excellent publication.

Jimmy Lithgow has definitely enriched the lives of those who became his audience and who came into contact with this gentleman and although in his twilight years, he came in for some flak for being too old school and insisting the "T's" were crossed and the " I's" dotted etc.there is a nagging thought that the RACING he was so passionate about could have accomadated him in a more meaningful role fitting a man who gave back so much to the game he loved.

R.I.P.
