that farmer scam is the oldest trick in the book....pulled by many a jock....jock look alike...okes that eventually became top trainers/ horsemen....I know of an oke that pulled in a few "marks" by sending them to bet with other okes posing as bookmakers on course... :whistle: ....on horses that had no chance of winning....they were raking in on the bet stake.... :S ...this is one of many reasons that racing got a bum rap.... :dry:

Long ago in our local tab/bookmaker cubicle here in Germiston I actually witnessed a bookmaker instructed the tab teller to cancel a punters R1200 p6 as the guy played, took his ticked and walked out. I sat the entire meeting at the sportpub and low and behold, the same punter had one leg to go and return to the site and we watched the race together.
His p6 duly arrived paying just over 300k, and I watch the bookmaker panicing when the last leg arrived as he had the cancelled ticked with him.
Upon presenting the winning ticked and to all present disgust, it was established that the ticket was cancelled 10 minutes after it was placed, before the running of the 1st leg.
The bookmaker was screaming and shouting, blaming the poor teller, knowing she did it on his instruction, he assaulted her and chased her away, blaming her and never paid the punter a cent.
.... this scam was ongoing and the one bigpayday in this punters life was ruined by a crooked bookmaker.
This hapenned at the now called Giggs betting shop in Elsburg.
The bookmaker eventually ran away and was never seen again.....
He scammed me out of 5k as well, same modis operandi.

Another time and on a number of times tab tellers tries to steal from me. Playing all my bets for the Durban July one year at the Daytona sport pub in Boksburg.

We drove through to Durban for the meeting, and on my return the Monday after the July, I handed the teller at Daytona a stag of winning tickets, I caculated and was to collect about 8k.

I was shocked when the teller handed me only about 2k for all my tickets, as per the window screen on the machine. We got into an argument and nobody believed me, checking and rechecking my tickets, all tickets on hand balanced to the amount showing on the screen. I had about 30 winning tickets.

I insisted to go behind the counter as I havent left the window, and found a number of my winning tickets in the dustbin under the counter, waiting to be cashed as I leave.

We cashed those in and I was still 1k short, this ticket was found under the teller machine.

Whenever I now cash tickets, Im handing it one by one to the teller, to be cashed in in front of me.

This is not exeption but the norm, we are being robbed daily, they, the tellers know all the tricks.

..... after al these years, the same teller is still working for Daytona as I still punt there.... but they are handeling me with care...

Many years ago before cell phones and the like must be going on 25 years ago when I resided in Plett a regular big punter always phoned in his exotic bets to the local bookie,these bets were accepted as a gentleman's agreement and they would always settle as per norm on a Tuesday, this particular Saturday the bookie didn't phone in the bet to telebet the pick six paid a couple of hundreds of thousands. When the punter called in he was told that they hadn't been able to place the bet as the floor was to busy, the matter was taken to court and the punter actually won the case(doubt that would happen now days) as the bookie should have informed the punter that the bet wasn't on(the punter happened to prop up the bar at a local watering hole so he could easily be found according to the court) I knew both parties involved and it was a genuine mistake on behalf of the bookie, they later became business partners as the bookie couldn't pay the debt and had to offer shares in the bookmaker operation.


The punter and bookie later sold the license at a exorbitant price to a up north miner who took a retirement package who knew nothing about the business and saw his arse in about months

Strange a friend of mine won R2460.00 they paid him R1946.00 He thought he made a mistake
Got home checked again and they did him withR500 when he went back they said he should have complaind before leaving the counter They are scamming all the time

.....I won a P6 % R30K + a little less than R200 (183)on a tote ticket....went to collect at my then local in Sunninghill they gave me a voucher for R15K and the rest in cash...to supposedly total R30K....when I got home I recounted the cash and I was R500 short....I told the operator to keep the change R183 .....yet she swung onto an extra R500...went straight back and she was gone but a temp operator and bar maid....was cashing up...I told her what had happened....she checked the tip jar as the operators were supposed to share tips....nothing.... not the smaller R183 tip nor the R500....she gave me my R500 and said she would sort it out...went back the next day...she said she got the money out of the operator....said the problem was that other winners had tipped bigger amounts and that the R183 was according to her...not enough....:S :blink:...that place was a bit of a drunken dive and badly managed....suggest punters stay away from dives....oh shit they are mostly all dives.....
