Beach Beauty’s foal stillborn AUGUST 19, 2015
Beach Beauty, Captain’s Lover and Ebony Flyer’s exploits on the racetrack will long be remembered by racing fans. All three are now at stud at Gaynor Rupert’s Drakenstein Stud in the Western Cape.
Sadly, Beach Beauty’s first foal, by one of the farm’s resident sires Duke Of Marmalade, was stillborn last week. She will be sent to Trippi – another Drakenstein stallion and fourth on the national sires’ log last season – this covering season.
That the foal was stillborn was a big blow to the farm because Duke Of Marmalade has sired three classic winners in Europe this season.
Star Of Seville won the Group 1 Prix de Diane winner at Chantilly; Nutan took the Group 1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg and Sound Of Freedom the Group 3 Premio Regina Elena in Italy.
Three-time Grade 1 winner Ebony Flyer, a top-class sprinter-miler, is about to deliver a Captain Al foal. Her first foal, an unnamed Trippi colt, has just turned one.
Captain’s Lover, winner of five of her seven races in South Africa including the Cape Fillies Guineas before going on to win races in France and the USA, has a three-year-old Giant’s Causeway filly, Song Of Happiness who is not in training, and has given birth to a beautiful Var filly.
