Well done

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Race 7 - Paolo is just "value" at his current odds, even though he has to put behind a pretty dire run in the Winter Guineas last time out. Today he has the assistance of Strydom, goes up in trip, a move that has always looked like it would suit him and has a good draw. He doesn't deserve to be a double figure price. The aforementioned run last time (when well behind the current favourite in Storm King) was too bad to be true, as he just never picked up when asked for an effort like he usually does. I'm all for giving him another chance though, especially as the form for his penultimate outing, when winning at this track is probably the best in the book. He was wide throughout, but came through with a strong challenge to lead late on.
That run indicated a few things. First, how he shaped that day gives me no doubt that he'll improve for a step-up in trip, given how strongly he finished off the race. Secondly, the form of that race has been franked in no uncertain terms. The 2nd, 3rd and 5th won their next starts and these were hardly weak races either. Taking the scalp of Blarney Bay and Desert Swirl is a fair achievement considering those two's exploits this season and with such form coming only has recently as April, you have to give Paolo another chance. There isn't a great deal of pace likely, which slightly dampers enthuisasm, but Paolo has a inside draw today and you have to think that they'll give him a more prominent ride, instead of the usual hold-up tactics. If so, the way the race is run will be less of a concern. I'm not sure he's the most likely winner, but at odds of 11/1 at the moment, given I think he should be closer to 5/1, he's worthy of a small wager in a competitive heat.

Priceless Jewel likes to run fresh and I think she has a massive chance here.
