It's not always necessarily whom they beat or in what class but HOW they win in any race. No?

As far as the Oaks is concerned and looking at how Strydom was scrubbing her along and how close she got I think Zephira will start a warm favourite. She has proven she does stay.

A few things.

Soma has mentioned that Athina will not go in the Oaks, so that point is moot. I think Zephira will be favorite but I like one or two others.

LTK does not have a staying pedigree but who doesn't like a champion right? Still, the 2450m at Turffontein will suck up everything he has. Don't forget he has had an exceptionally hard calendar, running in the listed 1800m, then the Guineas in sapping ground, then a hard race on Saturday. I hope he wins but it will be tough!

Don't discount Ziet's eye with Atomic rush. He is a very progressive son of Dynasty and even though he has a little bit of a climbing action, he will only get better and better with maturity and distance. I think Pettigrew has a real class animal on his hands here.

Remember, in shorter races, GR1 form is very important but because the staying ranks are normally quite a little bit weaker, you can get a handicap horse who beat older rivals step up to GR1 level.........

Will be a great race to watch!

this topic sounds familiar to when p jordaan also won the 1st 2 legs of the triple crown.punters are to quick to hail horses as champions and next superstars when they are in fact only beating horses of 1 province who might be only avg horses or top a div horses.why not wait till your champions race against the champions from the other centres and if they beat them, then by all means hail them as the best in the country.

to me even if ltk wins the derby,i still wont rate him as the best 3yr old in sa until he has met and beaten the best from other provinces.just my opinion of course and who knows he may be up to the task, but ill wait till he does it, b4 getting so excited as you okes are getting.

Just be aware of the MDK factor, he may put in a horse that can stay and will smash the field, just as Irish Flame did. Taarish has been very disapointing n I cnt see why they persist with him, maybe the Derby is his trip, who knws?

Tommy i backed Atomic Rush when he won last time out, looked a decent stayer, but just before he quickened up he also looked outpaced and took a while to quicken. He also seemed to have an action that suits the soft going(which there is a good chance he could get ) but if there is no rain everything might happy to quickly..

Mac you can write a line book with Henry Higgins form

So Neigh, what you are saying is Cherry on the Top is not a top class filly?
only reason she ran as she did was that she was so ridiculously handicapped and had a tough program. She was rated higher than igugu. Don't forget she smashed Do You Remember 3 times that went close in the July.

I hope she comes back to herself as she is no doubt the best older filly in the country!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, she is small and only of moderate ability in my mind. She will get slaughtered against the boys. Sorry Mr. Soma if you read these boards. I know however that you are planning to rest her anyway.

hope she takes her place in the Woolavington maybe?
