Do I need to look at card or is the meet more than likely off?
I didn't choose the #puntlife, the #puntlife chose me!

i notice lately that some mid week meetings from the vaal resemble the old half stakes meetings we used to have once a month from gauteng...besides the mr 76 which has only attracted 9 runners after the scratching the rest of the hcaps are 2 mr 68s 1 mr 65 and 1 mr 64....they all fully supported with reserve runners just in case...whats this telling us?

Looks like racing will go ahead - pen posted as 26, so going will be soft; work riders with plenty ol lower rated handicaps keeping the small owners with the 'soup meat' happy (or interested at least) - as a punter you have a choice - just stay out if you don't like it, tomorrow's another day (tu)
Some thoughts:
R1: At first glance Google It really looks the part, nice draw, experienced rider - out of a Rakeen mare so the 2000 should not be a problem - but - his one run in soft conditions was his worst in recent times - so 11/10 a bit short for me; both older horses Emirates Links and Prophet of War have run fair races in soft conditions, but it must be said that they look decidedly moderate - Light Years imo did not see out the 1800 last time, so the extra 200 may be a problem; so I'm looking for some value in Jewel of the Stage - tries the trip and blinkers and gets the well performed Mabaya in the irons - pinultimate run behind Takushi has yielded 3 'direct' winners and was drawn wide in his last start - can't get hurt at 33/1
R2: Another weak looking bunch of maidens - Global Power comes off another rest and this 4 yr old is only having his 6th start - jockey booking does not really inspire any confidence; Chapel of Love has 21 chances to date, but has some fair recent form - outside draw and an inexperienced rider are not in his favor; Sukomoros held by the reserve Giant Empire, so that form does not look great; so my choice is Triple Distilled (Mabaya again) - drawn towards the middle inside and has one fair effort in soft conditions behind Sovereign Mint and also a few fair runs before that behind the likes of Mister Cricket and Lance - 1600 may have been too far last time, so looks fair value at 6's or 7's.
R3: This looks a bit of a minefield; Daylamite at least has put up some fair runs in soft conditions and is drawn towards the inside, a rather unexperienced rider though, still looks a definite inclusion in the BP and PA; In Full Flo has her 30th run and did run last over 1700 on Sunday, probably better suited to the 1400 (did run 2nd to Samba Serenade over 1450 in soft conditions back in October last year) - also she holds Trophy Lady (jockey booking suggests improvement with blinkers) on their last run behind French Flair - a pin may come in handy
R4: With the scratching of Emearg, this now looks a boat race between Regent's Agency and The It Girl; RA gives me the impression that she does not see out th 1400, but she did put up a fair effort in soft conditions behind Be Mine Tonight and it is such a weak field that it's hard to imagine her not being concerned with the finish; TIG has flopped in soft conditions when racing in Cape Town, but that was over more ground, she does have the inside draw and seems to hold RA on collateral form behind Herathenavigatrix - can't find anything else no matter how hard I try
R5: Very open fillies and mares handicap; Lavish Gal seems to have come back to form and has won in soft conditions, draw may be an issue, but she could be the right one; Like the Willow the obvious one, but she is unexposed in the soft, so hard to know if she will handle it; Burlesque is my idea of an upset - she has won on the soft and her MR has come down a lot, worth including in everything imo; most of the others hold some sort of chance
R6: Another tough race, where my first 4 (in no particular order) would be Nero, Cuff Links, Mabuko Spirit and Teagan's Jet - all seems to not mind the wet and I find it hard to split them
R7: Woza Madoda ran much better than his rating in his last start behind As You Like; he has had one run in the soft, finishing 5 lengths behind Journeyman (now in Dubai, if I'm not mistaken), so really looks the part here - good draw and Mabaya does not hurt - short in the betting, but should prove hard to beat; Blue Spirit does put up the occasional fair effort and could be fighting out second with Caribbean Coast who is dropping in the ratings
R8: This does look something of a match between Vitruvian Man (has won in the soft) and Supertube (improving, but unexposed in the soft) - if there is to be a danger to these, I think perhaps Noble Star could appreciate the softer ground - reproducing his effort behind Master of my Fate should make him a big runner here; Lord Windsor also seem capable, but may be better over more ground
R9: Wunout disappointed on the sand last time, but does seem very capable on the turf and faces a moderate looking lot - he put up a fair debut in soft conditions and looks the right one to me - go look for that pin for the other places
Enjoy (tu)
