Maybe phone the tote or pop into your local for a full explanation ;)

mmmmm....not sure I understand the question, but :

'Boxing' is only applicable to a single race; let's take a trifecta as an example; say you like 5 runners to finish in the first 3; there are 3 ways of taking this bet:

1. You can select one (or more) horses to finish in a fixed position - this is called a 'fixed banker' (one horse) or double/triple banker (two/three) horses - so if you fancy no's 1,2,3,4,5 in a race you can select to have no's 1 and/or 2 finishing in a fixed position (e.g. first) and any of the others (no's 3,4 or 5) must then finish 2nd or 3rd in order for you to win the bet

2. You can select one (or more) horses to finish in a 'floating' position - this is called a 'floating banker' (one horse) or double/triple floating banker (two/three) horses - so if you fancy no's 1,2,3,4,5 in a race you can select to 'float' no's 1 and/or 2 - meaning both no's 1 AND 2 need to finish in the first 3 positions and any of the others (no's 3,4 or 5) must then finish in the remaining position (either 1st, 2nd or 3rd depending on where your 'floating bankers' finished) ; this bet is more costly that the 'fixed banker' option

3. You can select to 'box' all 5 horses; this means that 3 of your 5 selections must finish in the first 3 (in any order) to win the bet.

So if you take a 'boxed' exacta with 3 horses, the cost to take this bet once is 3x2 = R6; so in this case (as an exacta can not be taken as a fractional bet) you can not take the bet for R10 and get the bet once + a fraction; your R10 will only give you the bet once and you will get R4 change; you will beed to spend R12 to get the bet twice (and R18 to get the bet 3 times, etc)

Anyone that feels I'm talking nonsense, please feel free to correct (tu)

Exacta bet works as follows. There are a number of exacta bet combinations, and using 4 selections as an example, you could play the following bets

Box: single unit cost would be 4 x 3 , Which will be R12.00 taken once. You take the number of selections and multiply it by the number of selections less one.
You then multiply the unit cost by the number of times you want to play the bet for. No fractional betting allowed on the tote.

I stand to correction, but I think bookies do give fractional betting on these bets.

Thanks Guys. This info has been very helpful.
So the cost of the bet all has to do with the number or possible combinations @R1 each...
Please bear with me....
Do you have fractional betting on multiple race bets - P3 P6 JP PA?

Thanks

Yes - and also on 'single race' bets (trifecta, quartet)

Frodo, I don't think fractional betting available on the tote for P3, only P6,JP and PA

Had a quick look at tabonline. Seems fractional betting not allowed on JP either.
