Government to consult racing over corruption
By Andrew Dietz 7:50AM 10 DEC 2013
THE government will today consult racing on corruption in sport as it gathers senior figures from five leading sports to a meeting following allegations of fixing in football.
The summit at Whitehall has been called by Culture Secretary Maria Miller after six people, including Blackburn Rovers striker DJ Campbell, were arrested on Sunday during an investigation into spot-fixing in football.
Executives from the governing bodies of football, tennis, cricket, rugby union and rugby league will attend the meeting in London, along with representatives from the BHA, Gambling Commission, Premier League and Football League. The BHA will be represented by Adam Brickell, racing director of integrity, legal and risk.
It is understood the purpose of the meeting is to share best practices between the sports on preventing fixing.
Speaking on Radio 4, Rick Parry, ex-Premier League chief executive and former chairman of the Sporting Integrity Commission, said: “It needs a multi-agency approach, a coming together of the sports governing bodies, the police, the betting operators and the Gambling Commission. It’s too big a problem for one agency and they all need to take a share of the responsibility.
“I think it’s important to have an integrity unit which gathers intelligence and supports the governing bodies with their investigations and if you want to see what a top-class one looks like go along to the British Horseracing Authority as they have been at it a long time.
“With regards to how it could be funded there is a great opportunity with the new gambling bill going through parliament and extra betting revenues ahead and if a small proportion of that could be diverted we could have a Rolls Royce of an integrity unit.”

Where there money people will always cheat not all people but enough
Racing was extremely bent in "the good old days" but with the arrival of the
racetrack camera that changed Some jockeys are able to give a horse a easy
but not if they are a vigerous rider normally
That why Khumalo is in trouble He has had number of fines and suspensions in the last few
monrts for excessive whip use
His ride was totally out of character
But he may win his appeal
At least a wake up call for all jockeys who often put their hands down short of the post
