I see the benchmark for the race is 52kg = 94MR, does this mean that Uncle Tommy off a 116 will carry 63kg's or is it capped at 60kg's?

Doesn't mention anything in the conditions that weights will be capped - but not sure it these conditions are applied 100% in the way they are set out - it also states that the final field will be selected taking into account factors like 'current sand form' - and we know how this one was interpreted in recent years - won't be surprised if horses like Depardieu, Distinguished and Royal Zulu Warrior cause the same sort of 'debate' this year. :
And I know I'm hijacking the thread, but the method of selecting runners for races still leave me dumbfounded in some cases; we have nominated our extremely disappointing 4 yr old gelding (MR 65) in a Maiden this coming Saturday - only for him to be eliminated due to a preference for 3 yr olds; my point is that there are specific Maiden Plates catering for 3 yr old's only - so imo in an 'unrestricted' Maiden Plate, preference should be given to the older horses :S

Frodo, re the Emerald cup, I see a recent change to the rules states that the winner of the AUGUST STAKES is an automatic entry for the upcoming EMERAL CUP should the connections so wish.
sadly this was not the case when RED MIST won the AUGUST STAKES for Wally Britz & myself, & we were'nt even considered for this race.
some things do change for the BETTER. it will be interesting to see who gets LEFT OUT OF THE LINEUP !

Event-1 R 600,000 1450m (Sand)
EMERALD CUP (Grade 2)
0 IN A RUSH Gavin Smith
Also a potential runner, just hope we get in and no lightning this time round!!! Really top sand horses entered, but gonna take our chances. Then there's the draw, but first we need to get in.....holding thumbs.
