Great partnership in late 70's and early 80's for Natal.

Yes Mike Procter and Vince van der Bijl, they were an invincible opening bowling pair on Kingsmead's notorious "green mamba" upon which most Currie Cup games didn't reach day 3!

Natal won the Currie Cup in the 1980/81 season when the green mamba was at its height, but they didn't only perform well at home. They dismissed Eastern Province for 34 and 69 at St Georges (game over day one!) and this same hapless team were dismissed for 69 at Kingsmead. They also dismissed WP for 94 at Kingsmead (game over day 2). Both games against Transvaal were draws but Natal won all of their other Currie Cup games that season. Don't forget Transvaal had two players in their side that year bought from Natal, Fothers and Dyer, as well as Hanley bought from EP and later they bought Graeme Pollock, Van der Bijl, Sylvester Clark and Kallicharran - the other provinces relied on home grown talent.
