SPORTINGBET PAYOUT
11 years 11 months ago
I placed a bet on the 8th race at Flamingo today with 14 runners and my horse finished 4th and i was paid the place part of my each way bet. The same amount of runners were in the 9th race and my ew bet finished 4th again. However, my account was not credited and i went to see why. I see they were only paying 3 places in race 9, which seemed rather strange as i normally check that before placing my bets as i dont play ew on the races that only pay up to 3, but there is a good chance that i missed it.
However, i queried it with "Rosie" in the online chat help and she tells me that they only paid 3 places on that race. I asked the reason and she said "we just do"
Surely that is not a reasonable explanation. I couldn't be bothered to argue with someone who clearly had no intention of helping the customer.
What i want to know is does anybody know if there is any reasoning behind sportingbet offering 3 or 4 places when the runners are the same? With Hollywood its in the terms and conditions that over 13 runners 4 places will be paid

PS - i would only bet with hollywood if the betting markets were available for what i punt on and if the possible payout worked as well on Hollywood as Sporting bet with regard to patent, yankees, doubles etc.

Thanks for the reply hibs, but this is my point exactly,
1 Hidden Rave 30.70 5.80
2 Secret Spirit 5.00 1.30
3 Hollywood Chief 47.50 12.50
4 Roman Legion 4.00 1.50
5 Var Light 21.10 5.10
6 Breakspear 32.70 9.10
7 Woza Friday 6.40 4.70
8 Port Young 30.00 8.00
9 Lincoln Tan SCR SCR
10 Fort William 60.10 19.30
11 Power Flow 25.90 5.40
12 Road's End 3.50 1.50
13 Tripartite 10.70 3.00
14 Derbaas 16.30 4.20
I assume point iv of your post applies. Lincoln tan scratched at the start. Surely it should be a deduction and not a change in the payout places?

If I read correctly: 14 horses go to the start and a horse is scratched thereafter and if it causes a deduction, bets are subject to such deduction but if the scratched horse is , say 100/1 and therefore NOT subject to deduction, places are reduced to 3 ????
Am I reading those conditions correctly? Hard to believe cos it's illogical (and downright theft)!!

Couldn't agree more Rob. I take the bet knowing that the race will pay 4 places yet due to scratching they amend my bet? Its not a lot of money that i would have won but the principle is surely wrong and needs to be looked at. I would be interested to know if Hollywood or any other bookmaker on this site run exactly the same principles? Perhaps Dev would be able to shed some light?

I stand to to be corrected but some bookies do pay out according to the amount of horses carded I think Hollywood is one but not sure.

Hi Guys
Sorry James Blond, we (Hollywood) are one of them - and you have it there in the terms and conditions!
We pay our places according to the number of CARDED Runners:
FIXED ODDS PLACES TABLE
Number of carded runners
Places Paid
3 or less - Nil
4 to 6 - 2
7 – 13 - 3
14 or more - 4
Therefore even if there are 15 runners, and 3 get scratched, we still pay 4 places. Depending on the odds of the horses scratched, deductions will apply. Anything above 14/1 will receive no deduction (14/1 is a 5% deduction).
With regards to Open Places (or Tote places) we pay according to the SAFTOTE rules, and the dividends declared - as posted their in the T&Cs

I am not defending bookmakers but the rules in the UK cannot be the same as in SA.
For example a trainer can scratch a horse in the UK today and it runs tomorrow
You can start off from lambourn towards exater at 6 am with a horse that races on good and arrive at a course that is now running heavy
So there are sometimes plenty scratchings in the UK, thats why their rules are a bit diff to what we used to.

The way Hollywood do business is why they should be your provider of choice- I find it it difficult to have sympathy with those who deal with bookmakers whose conduct has been reported to be devious or suspect, and are then surprised to be treated the same.
The biggest drawback to common sense is that it is not too common.......lol
