i hear wat you guys are saying about soumillon, but as far as im concerned he is in the top 3 jockeys in the world and he is streets ahead of any jockey riding in rsa.this guy has won so many gr1 races in france and even in the uk.he was the retained jock of the aga khan for many years and i remember him winning the arc with those famous green with red eppaulettes.the expectations of sa punters are unrealistic and i always say our gr1 classic horses even with mdk magic and epol are not up to uk gr1 horses.i must add tho that there are some exceptions but imo igugu is not a superstar and that is not based on tonights performance.im as patriotic as the next guy,but you have to look at the bigger picture and we in rsa simply cant expect to beat the best uk gr1 middle distance horses.sprinters we have a chance.now ill wait for the smarties to attack.lol.

from this evening's BloodHorse website:

"Sajjhaa, who comfortably held back runner-up Prussian, was timed in 1:48.58 to eclipse the track record of 1:50.27 set by Mahbooba in last year's edition of the race.

(Italics mine)

Thought it was a bit fast, the way Igugu tore off to the lead, especially for a horse that hadn't set foot on the track for over a year. She just couldn't possibly keep that up for 1800m.

I think we are missing the point here with Igugu. If MDK was confident of her chances before the race, I would now be doubting her ability based on her performance.

The fact is that MDK said she is not primed, and she ran third (after a 13 month layoff).

Just how good is Igugu. If one looks at a form-line through the Apache, I would say she is world class. Igugu beat the Apache in the Met. The Apache subsequently wins a G2 in Meydan and beats City Style by a lenght, which in turn ran a lenght behind Musir.

Also not forgetting Igugu's horrendous run up to the Met.

IMO, just wait for the green light from MDK, and then Lock and Load.

The one thing I wondered was if Igugu would be interested in racing after so long ... at least that one's put to bed for me. Seeing her at the start, and in the first half of the race - well! She looked like she had raw red peppers stuffed under her tail. Just the same I still think she still needs one more race before they get serious with her.

And that was far from being a bad ride (stir, stir!) ... just the opposite im(not so)ho. Wyatt S knew his horse was gone at the 400m mark and instead of walloping her for nothing, just let her ease off. Next time out she will be just as keen to race but a lot fitter and a bit more balanced in her mind ... hope so anyway!!.

Nothing wrong with Igugu's run, nothing wrong with Soumillions ride (you guys know I can't stand the p$%&k).

She needed the run badly, got worked up behind the gates, was taken on by another speed horse that lit her up.......

I also don't think she is a superstar but she will improve lengths on this outing and I don't believe Shujjaa will ever beat her again.........

Sorry sheza but she won't win the WC.......That honor is going to America this year!!!

good horses win everyday regardless of a poor trainer or jockey.
