Is this the thread where one proves how old they are?

How are us youngsters supposed to know this stuff without googling it?(:P)

We went to different schools together but I do remember Nijinsky winning on the bit then getting beat a short head in the ARC when he ducked just before the line.

Some Wiki titbits.

The Leger is the oldest of Britain's five classics.

The leading jockey and trainer are both called Scott, only Scotia will know if they are related, with 9 and (amazingly) 16 wins respectively.

Like the Arc, the fastest winning time was last year.

The shortest winning odds were 1/10 by Triple Crown winner Galtee More and the longest 200/1 both in the 1800's.

Since Nijinsky, only Nashwan (1989), Sea the Stars (2009), and Camelot (2012) have won both the Guineas and the Derby.

No Derby winner has even entered the St. Leger since Reference Point in 1987.

In the winter of 2006/2007 William Hill offered 12/1 against the undefeated Teofilo winning the 2007 Triple Crown. However, the horse was withdrawn from the 2000 Guineas two days before the race after suffering a setback.

The question is if/when Camelot wins the st Leger will he go for Arc or retire undefeated? Maybe both?

Aidan O'Brien says it is "so far so good" as Camelot prepares for his date with destiny..............

www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/articl...0086691347289398532A

After Camelo's break following the Irish Derby, his weight started to increase which is very unusual. He's probably going to run a good bit heavier than he's done for his other three runs on Saturday," Aidan explained. ::o. "but three-year-olds usually mature towards the end of the year.....".

"He's different, he looks different, everything about him is different. There's a different vibe around him, he's a different character, he's not like the normal horse made of flesh and blood, there's an aura around him....".

Will also look forward to the Leger Legends race and hope Julie Krone ( most successful lady jock of all time) can keep her title, she rides Sunnyside Tom.

Imperial Monarch and Chamonix have been withdrawn leaving leaving nine runners and with Camelot as the sole rep from Ballydoyle.
