PA plays…07Aug’12 Vaal Sand –

Races 4 and 7 look the trickiest races today, with races 3 and 5 looking reasonably straightforward!??!

The following unfancied ‘fancies’ appear poor value – R2 Bridgewater 6/1(maybe blinkers help?),
R3 Formation 11/2, R5 Louvre 11/2, R6 Dalalaat 33/10, R7 Rodeo Dandy 11/2.

‘Value’ bankers are difficult to find and remain risky (opposed to the obvious selections in races 3+5, which I want beaten for a decent dividend) – going with Hobb’s Flight in race 2 believing the last run to be ‘legitimate’, and Calanish in race 3 because of his (and stables) excellent form at this track (only bankers in the short PA).

SHORT PA: 2 x 3 x 6+7 x 1+3 x 2+4 x 1+3 x 3+8 = 32 perms

LONG PA: 2+3 x 1+3 x 6,7+9 x 1+3 x 2+4 x 1,3+5 x 3+8 = 288 perms

Some thoughts:

R2: Tough start to the PA - load up - for a roughie maybe include Volcanic Attitude in trifectas and quartets - has his second try on the sand over a more suitable trip
R3: Mr Tobin - what else?
R4: Open handicap, but New York has honest form over this trip and should be right there again (backed up in the P6 with Silver Specialist); not too many without chances
R5: I think Follow the Piper will be hard to beat here, and is backed up in the P6 by her half-sister Jo-Piper, who could easily run into the money as well; Raise the Bar disappointed in her last 2 starts, but may now prefer this trip, so rates a chance as well, while Ugly Betty has not been unplaced over this trip yet (although out at the weights as is Cherry on the Cake)
R6: Open fillies and mares handicap, the Erasmus stable must be included in the P6, but I also like Dalalaat who ran a very good race last time with top weight and has won on the sand; It's on Fire seems to have he problems, but must be considered on her pinultimate run behind Mexican Glory, who could also feature with the 4kg's off her back - Jolly Wood tries the sand and needs to overcome a wide draw, so I prefer others
R7: Again include the Erasmus coupling in the P6 (the scratching Jumbo), with the Zaki coupling, but for the PA I like Strike Master (yet to finish unplaced over this trip) and Sermon (who runs for Strydom and also likes the trip) - Super Boy prefers 1000 imo
R8: Gemmayze Street has a big weight here for a newly turned 3yr old, but may be up to it and should place at least; for a bit of a roughie I like Revelry and aslo watch out for Made of Magic who returns to the sand after more than a year - too short for Al Felon imo and Tiger's Eye no value imo
