Some photos from the Byerley Turk (Gr 3) for 3-y-olds: Karl Nesius on Depardieu (winner); close up of the two; Anton Marcus on Unannounced (2nd).

Whatever anyone may think about Scottsville as a racecourse, it is a lovely place for an afternoon out of doors. Where else can one go, for no charge, and have an afternoon's sport without being harassed by beggars, thieves and wannabe car "guards"? The only other place in Pmb that I know of where I can feel safe and relax on my own, is the Bot Gardens, and there you have to pay to go in.
Here the horses are going down for the start of one of the sprint races last Saturday:
Horses going down the backstretch in one of the longer races:
Coming up the straight ...
Getting nearer the finsh post ...
And Whoosh! they are past! I just love the thunder of hooves and the shouting as they all charge by. TV has nothing of the excitement, the noise, the feeling, the adrenaline rush, that standing close to the finish of a race can give (sometimes I pity the ownersandtrainers, sealed in their glass boxes on high ... a good view, but none of the up-close experience that plebs like me can get):
