The answer is not the drying out.........its the preventing them getting flooded.
This particular circumstance may well be extreme but normally ,if the courses were protected with some form of covers until raceday,almost every abandoned meeting would go ahead.
Farmers cover acres of fields and,as Pirates says ,surely racing can afford to put covers on a racecourse.
They certainly wouldn't be abandoning them days in advance!

Did they not say the had covers just before the July or the Gold Cup? remember they had a problem with the pull up area? been trying to find the article but no luck yet
