Why is that Harris?
I thought it was owners and jockeys regarding their own
horses.

Dave we have laws in place that prohibit the use of credit card payments for any form of gambling which is why I switched to neteller and moneybookers account

SA has draconian laws regarding gambling, whether one agrees with them or not. They also overlap with some currency issues and whatnot.
But this betfair reaction was easily predicted when the operators and bookmakers asked the betfair rep in open question time whether they had SA customers in front of the government and sars. Once he said yes, there was no more pretending that we could just go on as before under the radar. 6 weeks later and we apparently have a 2 week countdown.
If, and I just speculate, sars asked for the list from betfair as a condition of their application to operate here, any odds the outcome? I wonder if there are owners, trainers and jockeys who have layed their own horses? I wonder if the 25K threshold would have an influence..in rands I mean? It's a brave new world.

Should Betfair get a licence to trade you will find that the biggest losers will be Phumelela and Gold Circle as the levy paid by punters tax to the operators at present at R80 million will come under massive pressure so good bye any thoughts of stakes increases for the owners. So if you are an owner who wants stakes increases and the possibility that someone might pay a large amount of money for your horse to go no good when you want to have a large bet rather stay with the local operators

No law says residents of the rest of the world can't play on the SA tote. Money goes on the tote, taxes paid, no issue.
