I'm not sure it was such a terrible ride, and I stood to win quite a bit of money had it won......

The horse has no early pace. He jumped out alertly but then just eased back in the field. They had no other choice but to ride the horse the way they did. I think Jordaan did as much as he could in a race run NOT to suit him.

If they chased him up with the pace I almost guarantee you that he would have fallen in a hole.......

We always quick to blame the jock, I'm one of them but in this instance I think the jock did what he could!

Nuff said!

I didn't think Barney Barnato was badly ridden. He started making up ground very easily early in the straight and I thought he was going to steam right past them all, but he didn't have the kick to outrun the winner. He is maybe still a bit green and possibly didn't go through with his effort 100%, but I'm sure he will make amends.

The problem with slow run races is that not all horses can be ridden handy. We don't know enough about Barney Barnato yet to say with complete conviction that he has to be held up towards the rear, but there are plenty of horses like that and you can sometimes hear their jockeys grinding their teeth in frustration when they are ambling along at one mile a fortnight.
