Rob do you think for 1 minute that it will not be a huge financial loss for Gold Circle not to race tonight?? The fact that they have decided to put the safety of the horse and jocks first by not racing despite the obvious financial loss they will incur should be applauded not ridiculed

Month end Friday Night meeting could never cost them money...the Pick 6 pool would be over 1 Mil as would the PA and J/pot..how could they ever show a loss on this meeting

For starters not even half the turnover is theirs and running a racemeeting costs a lot of extra dough.

NB obviously less than half the turnover is theirs but if they were showing a loss with 3million pools for exotics then racing would have been gone and forgotten long ago...do the maths

I don't remember suggesting that............Are Cwd problems ,for instance, the rain? or the crappy badly managed surface it's raining on?
Tellytrack and Saftote are continuing as if they are still racing at Greyville tonight.......good management???
Management is an all embracing issue, not an isolated incident.

URGENT MEDIA RELEASE
30 SEPTEMBER 2011
RAIN CONTINUES TO PLAY HAVOC WITH KZN RACING FIXTURES
Continuous rain has forced the abandonment of tonight’s rescheduled racing fixture at Greyville with penetrometer readings as high as 37 in some places.
“The average penetrometer reading this (Friday) morning is 32 following further overnight rain,” said Track Manager Kurt Grunewald. “However, the turf is significantly softer than that in the straight and most particularly at the winning post and in the pull-up area,” he added.
“Furthermore, the weather forecast for this afternoon is for more rain and Stacey Colborne at the South African Weather Bureau has warned that the wet weather is here to stay for at least another four or five days,” continued Grunewald.
“The prospects of more rain clearly jeopardizes the racemeetings scheduled for Clairwood on Sunday and Greyville’s night meeting for Tuesday October 4,” commented Gold Circle’s Racing Director Graeme Hawkins. “Clairwood has escaped the rains of the last few days but Stacey tells us that we can expect heavy rains on Sunday, which is clearly not good news,” continued Hawkins.
“We at Gold Circle clearly understand the extreme frustration these disruptions cause to all our stakeholders. It is our intention to replace all lost meetings but this does not satisfy the immediate problems of getting horses through the divisions and particularly those which are being prepared for forthcoming features both here and on the Highveld,” added Hawkins.
“We have a major problem with promising young unraced and lightly raced maidens having a chance to show their worth in order to qualify for certain races and we are contemplating adding a significant number of these (maiden) opportunities – but timing is a major issue and presents enormous headaches for owners and trainers,” said Hawkins.
“To start with we are adding a meeting at Clairwood on Sunday 9 October and this meeting will be made up of predominantly maiden races. The programme is presently being distributed to all trainers. We are also committed to adding racemeetings on Sunday 6 November and Friday (night) 16 December and will explore additional opportunities depending on how many meetings may be lost going forward,” concluded Hawkins.
KwaZulu-Natal recorded record rain fall figures during the supposed dry winter period, with as much as 556mm having fallen over Greyville racecourse since the beginning of April 2011.
