I make that open Greg, but he is surely on my shortlist!
Hard card for me today. Maybe a PA the way to go?

We have two runners today:
Danger Point runs in the sixth, and has come on well since his last start. He stays all day and has the blinkers back on today which should sharpen him up and keep his mind on the job at hand. His MR has come down to a more reasonable level and will also prefer the long straight of the Vaal. We are confident he will run a good race and will not be surprised if he pulls it off, it is an open race and don't leave him out if the play.
Gilmore Girl performs well in the soft but is probably in need of one more run to bring her to peak fitness. We were very happy with her comeback run as she wasn't given a hard ride and still ran a resonable race. The 1700 will suit slightly better but it is still a bit short and she is a small filly and has a lot of weight to carry. We would be happy if she runs a place but we expect her to be in the winners enclosure again before too long.
See you at the course, we have had a nice bet on Danger Point and hope he goes close.
Best of luck all on a very trick card and the soft and change of venue.

Tabgold still show the meeting as being at Turffontein. Even the man on the moon knows by now that it has been moved, but not the rocket scientists who provide "official" information. Yeah, I know, what's new?
Tommy, I stress again that I am not big on Furling Sail, but I reckon a two mile handicap may be his best chance of winning a race. Remember that in the UK especially maidens win handicaps against multiple winners day in and day out. Maybe they frame their races a bit differently (they could have the equivalent of something like an MR 55 handicap, which we don't, I'm not sure) ), but in principle there is no earthly reason at all why a horse MUST be a winner before it can be expected to compete with any success against winners.

@Tommy_Hotspur
The switch has got me flatfooted!
Anyways, the horse has been backed for its last 4 outings (favourite). It has progressed from1600m onto 2400m, placing in virtually every run. He also ran on over 1800m.
Chambers rides well for the stable (I think he also work rides there).
PLUS, he's been running at the Vaal, which is a bonus!
Only problem....haven't got the time to go through the field again, there is no collateral form against Strike a Deal. Over 1600m, he's had a better time than Bambela.
That's it...ase rested!
Break a leg!

It can be done, it just isn't tried very often at all in SA, although it is perhaps starting to grow ever so slowly.

# Amato, the 1838 winner, never raced before or after winning the Epsom Derby.
# Merry Hampton (1887) is the most recent horse to win the Epsom Derby as a maiden.
Only happened 100+ years ago, but still....

mike stewart has a battling maiden filly who runs places in handicaps ,probably gets eliminated in maidens due to its low mr
