Sodashi !!! Game in G2 Sapporo Kinen Victory
2 years 7 months ago
Japan's Champion 2-Year-Old Filly and G1 Japanese 1000 Guineas heroine Sodashi (Jpn) (Kurofune) returned to the winner's circle with a game victory in the G2 Sapporo Kinen on Sunday.
After taking four straight starts at two culminating in the Dec. 13 G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, the white wonder added the first fillies' Classic of the season on Apr. 11, but tired to eighth in the G1 Japanese Oaks when last seen on May 23.
A daughter of the four-time winner Buchiko, Sodashi is the first foal from her dam and has a juvenile full-sister named Mama Cocha (Jpn) (Kurofune). Barren to Maurice (Jpn) for 2020, Buchiko has a 2021 colt by that sire.
she is a beautiful Filly.

Shuka Sho (G1)
Hanshin Racecourse west of Osaka hosts the Grade 1 Shuka Sho this Sunday as renovations continue at Kyoto, the filly classic’s usual venue. The Oct. 17 running will be the Shuka Sho’s 26th. The 2,000-meter turf event is the final race in Japan’s triple crown for 3-year-old fillies and 16 of the 22 nominees are expected in the gate.
The filly triple crown is not on the line this year as it was in 2020, when Daring Tact came through to cap the classic trio with a spotless 5-for-5 record. Excitement will still be high, however, with a lineup sporting bold new blood, strong competition and the pure-white star Sodashi.
And a long rivalry brings added interest as Sodashi and Uberleben meet once again. Sodashi, winner of both the Grade 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies and the Grade 1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) will meet Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) winner Uberleben for their fifth time. Sodashi is currently out in front at 3-1.
The spotlight won’t linger on the Grade 1 champs. Promising standouts include Oka Sho third-place finisher Fine Rouge, and the second, third and fourth-place finishers in the Japanese Oaks - Akaitorino Musume, Tagano Passion and Art de Vivre. In addition, there’s Andvaranaut, just off her first graded-stakes victory and turning heads.

The G1 Shuka Sho had been billed as the stomping grounds of wildly popular white filly and G1 Japanese 1000 Guineas heroine Sodashi (Jpn) (Kurofune {Jpn}), but instead, 7-1 shot Akaitorino Musume (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) spoiled the party at Kyoto on Sunday.
Following in the hoofsteps of her dam, 2010 Shuka Sho victress Apapane, the Makoto Kaneko Holdings-owned dark bay settled in a tracking sixth through the early going as A Shin Hiten (Jpn) (A Shin Hikari {Jpn}) cut out steady fractions while Sodashi sat in second several lengths back. At the head of the lane, pilot Keita Tosaki had Akaitorino Musume in an ideal position and ready to pounce on the leaders, as Sodashi took over from pacesetter A Shin Hiten.
Sodashi poor run finished down field
However, with 200 metres remaining, Sodashi began to weaken and it was left to Akaitorino Musume, Andvaranaut (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}), and the rapidly closing Fine Rouge (Jpn) (Kizuna {Jpn}) to fight out the finish. A half-length separated Akaitorino Musume and Fine Rouge at the line, with the latter a half-length to the good of Andvaranaut at the wire. A Shin Hiten held on well to take fourth. Sodashi faded to 10th. G1 Japanese Oaks heroine Uberleben (Jpn) (Gold Ship {Jpn}) broke poorly and never factored in 14th.
