Forest Express to make amends

turfabc

Forest Express was a beaten favourite last week, but has a great chance to make amends in Race 6 over 2600m at the Turffontein Inside track on Thursday.

She found useful fellow filly Royal Utopia too hot to handle in an Assessment Plate, but stayed on for third, and had three of her seven rivals here well beaten.

This Oracy filly now goes 600m further, which may well suit, and has reigning champion jockey Lyle Hewitson up, freshly back from the Singapore International Jockeys Challenge

She really does look in the right field this time, and while no star is a confident selection on this day.

Top weight Brand New Cadillac has no stamina doubts whatsoever, and could give the most cheek. He kept finding more gamely to win last time, and is likely to race close to the action again.

Big Parade and Lee’s Pick were both well behind Forest Express last time, but make most appeal of the remainder.

Strongest contest of the day by a margin is Race 4, a MR 104 Handicap over 2000m. A small but quality field lines up, and Crowd Pleaser is selected to live up to his name.

This frontrunner loves a tight track with a short run in, and last time he ran here a year ago was caught very late by well-weighted filly and stable mate Girl On The Run.

He has been gelded since his last appearance, and if ready can lead them a merry dance despite carrying 60.5kg. Gavin Lerena will provide expert guidance from the saddle.

Bottom weights Bankable Teddy and Kilrain should chase him home, but Johan Janse van Vuuren’s Grade 3 winner looks to carry too much firepower.
