Socrasync Toro Ya Africa Algoa Cup was created by Bob Brogan
SUBJECT: New sponsor for Algoa Cup
DATE: Thursday 10 October 2019
RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming

The Listed Algoa Cup has secured a new sponsor and when it is run on Sunday 27 October, the R350,000 race over 2000m will be known as the Socrasync Toro Ya Africa Algoa Cup.
A number of Western Cape trainers have entered runners in the race and a strong field is predicted when the final declarations are revealed on Monday 21 October.
Socrasync is currently in a joint venture with Eastern Cape company Toro Ya Africa in a Transnet project for the construction of the East Bank entrance at the Port of Ngqura.
“As part of our Transnet contract we are required to also uplift the local community,” explained Cobus Coetzee, Project Director of the Joint Venture.
“We want to use the raceday as a platform to contact people and present what we are doing in the area. While we provide the expertise, everything else is sourced locally – workers, contractors products.
“We will also build a facility specifically for the community, for example, a shelter to assist abused women,” added Coetzee.
He also points out that the raceday itself employs people and that also helps to empower the local population. “We are delighted to be in another Joint Venture with Eastern Cape Racing and Phumelela,” said Coetzee.
Socrasync Civil and Construction is the product of the amalgamation of skills coming from different industries. The Company is fully in compliance with BEE requirements on a Level Two basis and is also committed to women empowerment, employment equity, employee skills development and reducing the high unemployment rate facing the country.
They have a footprint in most provinces whereby they hope to make an impact in changing people’s lives through employment or community outreach programmes.
The Socrasync Toro Ya Africa Algoa Cup is the focus of the weekend although there is also a meeting on Friday 25 October, when the Racing Association Plate for three-year-olds will be run.
