Make sure you are wide awake if you're planning on buying either lot 321 or 322 and make sure you buy the right one.

....at last some of Admiral Kittens progeny get to a sale.....but none to mares of any note....of whats on offer I quite like the un-named filly out of Welsh Kitten and cannot fathom why it was not named Twice A Kitten.....:P

....really thought that Welsh kitten would throw something of note and Zeta Jones withdrawn at last years sale looked to have the right type of genetics...

Why why why ?????

at current stake levels, with high likely hood of further stake cuts in the future why would u want to get involved at any Yearling sale.

if u lucky enough to own a 1 % horse that is good enough to win a few good races, the inept handicappers ensure the butcher its future with a MR system from lalaland.

if u even luckier to own a 1% of the 1% horse and u want to race overseas. u cant unless u willing to jump thru more hoops than a circus animal. and probably traumatise the horse in most cases.

and then to top it all off u have governing bodies that have guns aimed at both feet of the horse racing industry.

so i ask Why why why would u get involved with a new yearling???

Ya quite right Sly. I also believe the stakes in Gauteng are being cut end April I think I heard, however of much more importance they now have a good excuse not to carry out the export audit. That needs to be confirmed before this sale .

What are you hearing Oscar? Just doing the numbers utilising the RA numbers presented earlier, with no dividends coming in from Phum and I work out a optimistic 20% drop and a pessimistic 30%. Either way its tough times for owners.

OTA, my personal thoughts are that immediately after the April races in Jhb there will be "off-season" stakes which will probably drop by 20%. The unfortunate thing is the the Racing Management will need to have an emergency meeting, if it were my company I would already have had that meeting, and communicate their actions going forwards as regards all aspects of horse racing under their control to all stakeholders and the public.

Lets see if they even do think its necessary to hold a meeting and communicate immediate actins for the industry. I personally cannot see sales going ahead, I cannot see meetings going ahead HOWEVER the most critical thing to racing, I cannot see the expected audit to go ahead I think it will be postponed indefinitely.

Tattersalls intends to proceed with sales at its Ascot, Newmarket and Cheltenham locations in March and April, including the Ascot March Sale this Thursday, which will comprise 190 lots, after it released a statement in response to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The correct thing was to postpone the sale and that has now been done
The ongoing problem is the stakes that will be on offer in the future
No stakes equals no owners
Even if horses are given away they still have to be fed
The export protocol has just received another excuse
It will be a cold day in hell when that eventually happens
Phumelela should have shed staff months ago and now its too late
Racing is about to fold its tent
TOO LATE TOO LATE

Hope for racing in SA it does happen, basically an entire industry in SA is relying on it happening. Stakes plunge plus no exports would bring bad times to many people, anxiety must be high right now.

even if it does happen why on earth would a foreign buyer waste their time buying yearlings here? Even if they are dirt cheap you cannot get away from the fact that barring a few exceptions our horses are not really world class - I just think this export ruse is a nothing event - The converse has always been true - imported horses have done exceptionally well here and those horses were not in any world sales toppers in their home countries - If a mid price Aussie import can win Graded races here why would any foreign buyer want to buy our top horses instead of looking at the Aussie market?

...ja no use of getting over confident that the job is done .....and then out of left field the unimaginable happens..... this is a bigger setback than an actual AHS outbreak.....

The export protocol will be way down the EU ‘s priorities now

Plus if it’s not done before the end of the year they might need to discuss separately with the UK ( Brexit )

Also what sires in SA would appeal to overseas buyers?

i have asked this question before somewhere on the ABC site.

why do we think the export protocol will save SA racing?

who will it benefit? certain top end Stud Farms ??? certain big owners ?? certain big trainers? of the current 5800 horses in training or up for sale. how many are export quality and what financial benefit would the average owner/punter/trainer get from these limited exports?

will it benefit the stakes pot?? i don see how ? seeing that the stake spot comes out of gambling revenue.

this is not the silver bullet to save SA Racing in its current form. more a red herring to deflect from other deficiencies in the Phumelela Model
