How is my mate Sylvester doing surely has been on form with the Matchett yard.

Still shocked after both Mr Marcus and Wright came back from WC and won @ Greyville

VAAL STRAIGHT COURSE MONDAY OCTOBER 25 FORMGUIDES, SELECTIONS, PERMUTATIONS

by David Thiselton

R1

Preview: DAME OF FLAMES (3) has run two pleasing races over 1500m and 1600m respectively and this big horse has plenty of scope for improvement. QUEEN THEODORA (6) has run two fair races to date and last time when stepped up to 1450m the slow pace was unsuitable as it turned into a sprint for home so being by Elusive Fort she will enjoy the further step up in trip. RAY INDIGO (1) is close to Dame Of Flames on paper if able to repeat her first attempt at this trip last time when staying on well. (David Thiselton 3-6-1)

R2

Preview: KING OF VENUS (9), who is by Vercingetorix out of Trippi one-time winner (on debut) over 1000m, was outpaced on debut over 1200m but made up a lot of ground and was finishing fast for fourth so this big horse is interesting in the step up to 1600m. OCEAN WARRIOR (1) has some good form in the strong centre of Cape Town and in his return from a three month layoff can go close in this uninspiring field. FLASHY APACHE (2) has shown promise and although out of five-time winning Gold Press sprinter Flashy she is by The Apache so should get the trip but he does return from a (David Thiselton 9-1-2)

R3

Preview: STUNNING KITTEN (1) finished second to the smart Wisteria Avenue over 1800m last time and is well drawn over a step up to 2000m which she should handle. ARIZONA LADY (4) continually disappoints but should be involved in the finish in this line up. KOOPA TROOPA (2) has a chance of making the frame too after a decent Highveld debut over the too sharp 1600m. BASS LINE (8 ) was beaten 6,20 lengths by Stunning Kitten in the aforementioned race but still has a place chance here. SHIKURU (3) can earn if repeating her penultimate start. (David Thiselton 1-4-8-3-2)

R4

Preview: SECRET LINK (7) is the one to beat on form but he does have a tough draw to overcome. INDIAN WARDANCE (9) is improving and only has half-a-length to find on Joe Harman and has a better draw. MISTER BLUE SKY (2) narrowly beat Joe Harman in a 1700m race when 4,25 lengths behind Secret Linke but he does have a tough draw. JOE HARMAN (1) finished five lengths behind Secret Link over 1700m but has done better and is consistently in the money but he does have a tough draw. APACHE GOLD (8 ) improved last time and Khumalo stays aboard. ZAVIAH (10) has 1,50 lengths to find on Apache Gold. ARLINGTON ACTION (11) could also earn. (David Thiselton 7-9-2-1-8-10-11)

R5

Preview: CAPETOWN AFFAIR (7) has improved and should enjoy the step down in trip. MY KINGDOM (2) as a handy type with a middle draw is interesting down the straight over an ideal trip. WAQAAS (3) is usually thereabouts and is distance suited. (David Thiselton 7-2-3)

R6

Preview: SERGEI (3) finished a good second behind a promising filly last time and can go one better. ZABARJAD (9) can go close ir repeating his run last time. BLOOMINGTON (2) does not have an easy merit rating of 83 to contend with but loved the ease in the ground last time and it is forecast to be raining on the day so he has a shout again. (David Thiselton 3-9-2)

R7

Preview: ZIMBABA (3) is classy and has speed and is the best weighted but she does return from a layoff since being unlucky in the Graden Province on July day. LEMON DELIGHT (8), who is second best weighted, had useful form in Cape Town and makes her Highveld debut after a three mont layoff. SMORGASBORD (5) is the highest rated male runner and shoud make his presence felt in this wide open event. (David Thiselton 3-8-5)

R8

Preview: FRONTLINE FIGHTER (4) is officially 2kg under sufferance with the best weighted runner here but looks capable of rising above his current 77 merit rating. WHO'S THAT STAR (1) has good form over 1000m and should go close despite being 1.5kg under sufferance with the best weighted runner. ALLEZ LES BLEU (9) is the second best weighted runner, just half-a-kilogram under sufferance with Hear The Trumpet, and she has a nice middle draw over an ideal trip. PRINCESS QUEEN (7) returns to the 1000m trip of her best form and could be dangerous with a 4kg claimer up. HEAR THE TRUMPET (8 ) is the best weighted but it remains to be seen whether the number one draw is disadvantageous on the day as it sometimes can be. (David Thiselton 4-1-9-7-8 )

Leg 2: 9

Still not the biggest fields - but at least averaging at 9 runners per race - does look a 4-legged P6 as Stunning Kitten should really find it hard to lose the 3rd, while Smorgasbord should also go close - takes on a classy field though especially Zimbaba

Flashy Apache in the 2nd comes out of a strong formline and looks very good each-way value at the odds

Enjoy B)

9 King Of Venus 1.52 1.43 1.33 1.00 0.91 1.00 1.11 1.33 1.52 1.67 1.82
How's that run from the original odds on favorite, these bookies are too sharp.
Even with early money they where not scared to drift it.
Yes there was plenty money for the winner but that still doesn't explain the poor run from King of Venus.
