Fears and thoughts in South Africa

Ok guys let me just kick off with the following, lets not be shy.

I just missed the second world war but had an indication what people went through via mum and dad.

In these days it was Churchill doing the talking and tonight we had Ramaphosa.

I felt he came over well and was clear and distinctive and well focused on what we have to do .

We all have massive decisions and disciplines to follow to ensure his call is met.

I certainly had a few JWBs to brace myself for his address to the Nation.

As you may be aware I came to KZN to visit my grandkids and watch noble diana (have her last race).

We now find ourselves at my daughter's home in Kloof with the grandkids and must say no complaints about being in lockdown mode here.

It will be a challenge for the next few weeks but our place in Pretoria is in good hands.

I have always been hyperactive and not being able to go out and socialise is difficult, it has always been a big part of our life, especially during our last few years of retirement.

I am at the stage that i don't fear death but rather life.
In the words of the WHO ( not the World Health Organization) but the band, Daltrey, Moon and Townsend.
From the track My Generation "hope I die before I get old".
Based on you don't want to be a bumbling idiot or burden on family.

My point is ......what are we going to do to keep busy during the 21 days?

From my side, keep the kids busy, some handy work, try some daily exercise, keep mind active, watch tv, have a few dops, maybe a few braais, few quiz/card game, listen to my fav band's.
Not to sound morbid but my daughter helped me make up my play list for the funeral.
No official date set as worried about crowd restrictions, but have enough good songs to cover a few days.
Some really good numbers.

This thread is obviously a bit tongue in the cheek but felt it might keep us sharing some of our thoughts and concerns going forward.

Keep safe and in doors πŸ˜·πŸ‘πŸΉ

Our company has handed out laptops to everyone to work from home (as of Friday) for this period. Heard from someone from a different company, the networks are overloaded and cannot handle the traffic and are extremely slow or crashing as most companies are exercising this route to ensure continuity of business. Unchartered territory, let's see how we go.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

I listened again and felt all was covered by the President. all will be well if we can stick to the "discipline".
This could make or break the country.

One thing for sure is the financial damage will take many years to repair.

We have to hang in ......difficult times ahead.

hate to be the profit of Doom......this will stick many people out financially..... we are a nation living on debt ......even Cyril had to power through the financial part of his delivery and I sense as when it gets down to the technical nitty gritty it is going to be a big hail Mary.....the country is broke tottering on the brink from a post Zuma era of unchecked theft....having a lock down may be an essential practice for the inevitable.....

What's the chances we can get through three weeks with out civil unrest in and around the townships? I reckon is an odds on bet there will be trouble.

As my wife and I plan to emigrate to Italy in early I will take this lock down period to start learning the language. I would take this opportunity to learn to play the guitar but I do notr wish to burden my wife with the noise... or worse get murdered in my sleep.

Imagine if Zuma was still in charge?
His mind would be racing on how he could utilize these large fund donations to his own benefit.

I am fairly sure they will now reach the correct people and institutions.πŸ™

Happy to see you are an optimist Dave !!

With the ZAR at R17.60 to the dollar and the world rushing to stack up on dollars things can only go downhill from here. Over R23 to the dollar and trading partners will stop accepting Rands and then the death spiral into Zimbabwe'esque economy is on the cards..... especially after this crisis and if he pushes forward with the land reform Act.

Stack those Sats people {grin} ....1 BTC = $6471 .... now multiply that by 17.60 .... a real Rand Hedge if I have ever seen one !!!

Well my visit to the local Spar:
It was very busy for early morning with many full trolleys, appears plenty stock at this stage.
Packet soup, various tins, 2 min noodles and the famous toilet rolls taking a pounding.

Good point Bob
Get the impression that could be the first trigger point of violence and looting ?
We hope not, lets hope we continue to have a balanced flow of essential requirements.
